Brandon Meriweather back to Redskins on one-year deal

We shared a quote from free agent safety Ryan Clark a short time ago about his continued negotiations with the Redskins.

Clark wasn’t the only veteran safety talking to the team, however, and another one has signed a contract with the team. Dianna Russini of NBC4 in Washington reports that Brandon Meriweather is returning to the team on a one-year deal worth $1 million.

Meriweather started 13 games for the Redskins last year after missing all but one game of the 2012 season because of knee problems. He had 69 tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble for the team and missed one game while serving a suspension for repeated hits to the head of opposing receivers.

Meriweather’s return doesn’t close the door on another safety landing in Washington as the Redskins only have Phillip Thomas, Bacarri Rambo and Jose Gumbs on the depth chart to go with Meriweather. That safety could be Clark, although Meriweather’s return could be a sign that the Redskins don’t view him much more highly than what they already had in house.
