Colts owner has admitted painkiller addiction in the past

Colts owner Jim Irsay’s arrest this morning on DUI and possession of a controlled substance charges might have been his first brush with the law.

But it’s far from his first cry for help.

Irsay admitted abusing prescription painkillers in 2002, saying he sought treatment for his addiction.

“After several years of orthopedic operations and procedures, accompanied by long bouts of chronic pain, I became dependent on prescription pain medications,” he said in a statement at the time. “I have successfully dealt with my dependence and my chronic pain issues. This has been a personal journey, and I ask that my privacy, as well as that of my family, be respected on this health issue.”

Irsay has also bragged on Twitter about not having a drink in 15 years, but this morning’s arrest suggests something was in his system.

The nut does not fall far from the tree. His bombastic father was a raging alcoholic with many live interviews in Baltimore where he was clearly drunk and out of control. Sad.

Dependence and Addiction are two different things Mr. Irsay.

Maybe it is semantics and Irsay was right. He truly hasnt had a drink in 15 years. Turns out who was the guy that invented butt chugging…

I’d rather have an owner in a 12 step program than have a fan base who stole the name “12th man” from A&M.

Sucks as a society how much we feel the need to get into other people’s business that doesn’t effect us.

For quite a while now, I’ve found Jim Irsay to be incredibly annoying and an embarrassment to his fans. His ego and jerkish behavior have really rubbed me the wrong way, to say the least.

However, the more I find out about Irsay, I find my opinion of him is starting to change … I’m actually starting to feel more sorry for the guy than anything else. Did you know, after 33 years of marriage, his wife Meg Irsay filed for divorce last November? And boatloads of money in no way helps the disaster of a childhood he obviously had with notorious father.

Don’t worry Colt fans, Jim is a billionaire. He will check into rehap. in 30 days he will be better, and all is forgotten.

Narcissism. Bet he thought he could buy or handshake his way out of anything in Indiana. I bet this isn’t the first time.

Why is it that the rich choose to drive themselves
while intoxicated, when they can easily afford to pay for transportation? Save yourselves time, money and grief… Have a friend pick you up, sleep it off, take a taxi, a limo or even a plane!
    Also, Grow up.

  24. bucrightoff says: Mar 17, 2014 9:10 AM

Look I hope he gets better and all, but no matter how many times he said he didn’t drink anymore, his actions on Twitter strongly suggested otherwise. Denial is part of the process, and hopefully he gets through it now.

  25. packerbackernj says: Mar 17, 2014 9:11 AM

Narcissism. Bet he thought he could buy or handshake his way out of anything in Indiana. I bet this isn’t the first time he’s been pulled over drunk, but the first time the cop did what’s right, instead of being enamoured by the colts owner right infront of him. This stuff happens everywhere.

Once a pickle always a pickle, never to be a cucumber again. So many go to rehab, come out and think they’re “fixed”.

  27. anonymous135 says: Mar 17, 2014 9:15 AM

It’s been apparent he’s needed help for quite some time.. we ridicule him knowing this full well – but now it’s official.

Hopefully he gets the help he needs, he has ZERO excuses.

    That’s my sympathy.

It’s F’ing RICH that a guy like this who craves attention now seeks his privacy. I hope with his request comes his own action in keeping out of sight and mind.. we all know that won’t happen – and this is where he deserves being roasted so publicly. Well Deserved Sir…

As bad as this photo here looks, he looks 20 years older in his mugshot. Sunken cheeks, looks like he hasn’t been eating, all the signs of somebody with a very serious problem. I hope he finally gets some help.
