Giants enjoy a little Holliday

Cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie wasn’t the only Bronco signed by the Giants on Monday.

They’ve also signed receiver/kick returner Trindon Holliday.  Per a league source, it’s a one-year deal.

Holliday, who has four combined return touchdowns in his regular-season career and scored two (one punt, one kickoff) in a January 2013 playoff loss to the Ravens, was a restricted free agent but the Broncos didn’t make a tender offer.  He visited the Falcons before agreeing to terms with the Giants.

He’s a Giant while anything but, standing a mere five feet and five inches tall.  Still, he’s shown that he can be a difference maker.  Holliday will get a chance to continue an impressive career in New York.

The excitement and apprehension when he fields the kick are palpable. you never know if you’re going to get a great return or a turnover, but it’s fun to watch.

Will be great to finally have a solid KR for once. That’s always been an area we address at the last possible second. Great signing!

Will miss Holliday’s speed and elusiveness but not his fumbling and shenanigans.

  7. bayareacolt says: Mar 17, 2014 7:33 PM

Hmm. Giants not messing around this offseason

  8. Mr. Wright 212 says: Mar 17, 2014 7:33 PM

Please stop fumbling. Otherwise, I love it.

  9. letmesetyoustraight says: Mar 17, 2014 7:34 PM

Yep, he’s a great returnover man.

  10. Giantspunk213 says: Mar 17, 2014 7:35 PM

It’s gonna be cool having a legit kick/punt return threat on the field, pretty good free agency so far for Jerry Reese.

  11. justareasonablevoice says: Mar 17, 2014 7:36 PM

Great pickup, the Giants have addressed quite a bite on defense and now need to continue on offense, We still need a great Tight end

  12. imthaschmidt says: Mar 17, 2014 7:37 PM

See what happened was Chip Kelly came into town and now the Eagles are looking like an exciting and more importantly a winning team. The Giants used to be able and watch most of these teams kill themselves, like Dallas who always blows it and like Washington who typically does the same. The Giants knew they had to go out and get good people if they want to win the division/championship.

  13. edithpiaf51 says: Mar 17, 2014 7:37 PM

My two favourite teams made lots of trades ; Broncos and Giants, wow, they are not messing around this offseason.

  14. arwiv says: Mar 17, 2014 7:38 PM

Wow….Reese is going all out to save his job and I cant say I blame him. I have to wonder though….how the heck are we paying JPP and Prince next year (antrelle comes off the books and that’s big, but I was hoping we could keep him)?

  15. td30 says: Mar 17, 2014 7:38 PM

The return that convinced me I didnt want him on the broncos anymore was when he HAD to hang onto the ball, only to get wrapped-up and simultaneously get tackled and stripped of the ball by one person. He’s not going to always be able to run out of bounds or to the endzone.

and that’s if he catches the ball

  16. Mr. Wright 212 says: Mar 17, 2014 7:41 PM

I hope Niklas falls to the 2nd Round. I want Benjamin out of FSU in the 1st.

  17. blacknole08 says: Mar 17, 2014 7:43 PM

I think Holliday is laughing at the SB patch on his jersey in his pic.

Anyways, good addition for the Giants.

  18. jam11163 says: Mar 17, 2014 7:49 PM

Looks like it’s the giants and eagles for the NFC east.

  19. stercuilus65 says: Mar 17, 2014 7:51 PM

Good signing because he will be returning ALOT of kickoffs this season!

  20. wishingtonredslur says: Mar 17, 2014 7:52 PM

Now I’m just confused. Why did we sign Demps? I guess Wilson is done. Otherwise this has been a very satisfying free agency.

  21. andrewluck12 says: Mar 17, 2014 7:53 PM

I loved when pat McAfee speared him when the colts put the beat down on the Broncos

  22. elrock7 says: Mar 17, 2014 7:55 PM

I wasn’t aware that the Giants were in need of another fumbler….weird

  23. sportsnut101 says: Mar 17, 2014 7:55 PM

Hey guys whos gonna help eli with his picks problem

  24. canadianbucsfan says: Mar 17, 2014 7:55 PM

I love watching him return kickoffs, that’s some exciting football. He has fumbling issues but is always a threat to run one back.

  25. justintuckrule says: Mar 17, 2014 7:57 PM

The anti-Phil McConkey in every way possible.

  26. realnflmaster says: Mar 17, 2014 7:59 PM

No defensive line. No Offensive line. No Receivers. No Quarterback.

    L-O-L

  27. brucetrimble says: Mar 17, 2014 8:02 PM

Giant fans should regard this signing with caution as he is equally adept at fumbling as scoring. And when he tanks, he tanks. This from a broncos fan.

  28. mad55555 says: Mar 17, 2014 8:03 PM

A washed up CB and a fumbling KR. nice job Philadelphia OWNED NJG. Looks like it’s another season of being owned by the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles got Sproles and the NJG got the trash. LOL

  29. denbronx says: Mar 17, 2014 8:03 PM

Dude has all the talent in the world but is a turnover machine at the worst times.

You Giants will will learn to hold your breath when the ball is kicked to him. He is either going to break off a long run or something very bad is going to happen.

  30. pftfan says: Mar 17, 2014 8:04 PM

Congrats on winning the Offseason Super Bowl!

You get to join such legendary teams such as the 2009 Redskins, the 2011 Eagles, and the 2013 Dolphins.

  31. mrclaytonbigsby says: Mar 17, 2014 8:06 PM

He cant catch punts (gets scared and muffs it) and when he does catch it, he will usually fumble whether it be from a hit or dropping it before the endzone.

  32. The Red Rifle says: Mar 17, 2014 8:06 PM

As always, Mike Brown is asleep during the offseason. Dalton needs weapons. He is already arguably the best QB in the league, but he is Dan Marino without any talent around him. He would already have three rings with half of the league’s receiving corps. This is a joke. He has AJ Green and no one else. He puts his team on his back every game.

  33. logast says: Mar 17, 2014 8:15 PM

Isn’t this the returner that Pat McAfee nailed?

  34. Mr. Wright 212 says: Mar 17, 2014 8:16 PM

Ratio of Giants haters/people from outta town with inferiority complexes with New York to Giants fans on these threads lately: 10:1.

    Can’t wait for the fumbles.

the EAGLES got the trash 32 old RUNNING back LOLOLOLOLO

  39. broncoscountry33 says: Mar 17, 2014 9:00 PM

Take it from a Bronco fan. This guy is explosive but he is a major liability. He’ll bobble kick offs that will leave you shaking your head. He went from our punt and kick off return guy to just our kick off return guy because he makes poor decisions and cant catch the ball. Guy is fast but good luck.

  40. broncoscountry33 says: Mar 17, 2014 9:06 PM

this guy is going to give the giants coach a heart attack. I mean did they watch any tape on this guy. They need to spray an entire can of superglue on his hands when they send him out there. He’s fast but will be in the dog house by mid year.

  41. sdelmonte says: Mar 17, 2014 9:06 PM

Dan Graziano notwithstanding, the Giants have done a lot more than I expect with free agency. I can’t say they are there yet, but they are a lot closer than I would have hoped.

  42. lic112014 says: Mar 17, 2014 9:18 PM

To all the haters out there. You make me laugh.Fumbles, that’s all you can come up with. The guy is a dynamic kick returner and he will give our kick and punt return game a boost like we haven’t had since Dave Meggett. Just wait until the draft.Oh did I mention we have the 12th pick.

  43. taintedsaints2009 says: Mar 17, 2014 9:29 PM

Those were the only guys on Denver’s team who had speed. But holiday fumbled a bunch

  44. broncoscountry33 says: Mar 17, 2014 9:36 PM

Yeah lic112014 thats what we come up with FUMBLES. Theres only 2 things the guy can do on a play catch and fumble or catch and run. He catches and fumbles a lot. I know because i watched every game. You think the broncos would let him go if he didnt fumble??? The answer is no. Hes a huge liability/ Im bummed for the guy because he has so much potential but he just blows it. You wait and see.

  45. janvanflac says: Mar 17, 2014 9:43 PM

Exciting player but you have to be suspicious of a RFA that wasn’t even tendered.

  46. thefiesty1 says: Mar 17, 2014 9:48 PM

There’s nothing wrong with being 5’5″. Dynamite comes in small packages.

  47. sicklnick121 says: Mar 17, 2014 9:55 PM

Losing Holiday for Denver is huge, he set up so many cake drives for the loft throwing Manning. #careerover

  48. listenup823 says: Mar 17, 2014 10:05 PM

As a Denver fan… Seriously folks, this guy will cost you more games than win them for you.. That’s why he was yanked in the playoffs in favor of Welker/Decker… Good luck..

  49. Mr. Wright 212 says: Mar 17, 2014 10:31 PM

it’s a one year deal, and you people are acting like he was given 6 years and 50 million. Low risk, potential for high reward.

  50. edithpiaf51 says: Mar 17, 2014 10:57 PM

Denver is dumping all their leftovers on the Giants.

  51. thegronk87 says: Mar 17, 2014 11:22 PM

It’s funny how giants fans think they are good now

  52. lctrain34 says: Mar 17, 2014 11:34 PM

A flashy fumbler. So excited for Giants fans. LOL

  53. brendanragan says: Mar 18, 2014 12:33 AM

Giants fans calling this a win are about to learn why we called him Heart Attack Holliday in Denver. The man is an absolute burner, but he has small hands and a diminutive frame. You can’t coach his hands to be bigger. He’s got a great heart and I wish him well. But he’ll continue to lose half the balls he goes after. Texans cut him mid season and the Broncos didn’t tender him. It isn’t rocket science.

  54. imagetcha says: Mar 18, 2014 1:33 AM

The next madden game will be a lot of fun with this team so far. I always trade for Holliday as my returner!

  55. sc5000 says: Mar 18, 2014 4:17 AM

Watch the superbowl he didn’t set up shheeett

  56. kst2074 says: Mar 18, 2014 7:56 AM

to bad most kick offs are not returned. As a skins fan Im glad to see the Giants waste a roster spot and cap money

  57. jetvet77 says: Mar 18, 2014 8:05 AM

Pre season will be his proving ground. One year deal with nothing for Giants to lose. Up-side is he brings competition and excitement to camp, makes special teams try harder, a reason to play smarter, block better. Can Coughlin teach him how not to fumble? (Remember Tiki)

  58. petergriffin1974 says: Mar 18, 2014 9:27 AM

To Giant haters out there, you make some good points about risk, but EVERY team has make changes. Look flaws ,each of your teams has & how they are rolling the dice in off season, try and improve.
We desperately need new playmakers, chemistry had last 2 years been horrible. On paper this looks
interesting now, but who knows. We have seen Eagles, Jets, Redskins and other teams win offseason Super bowl. Understand Fun taking jabs at other teams, But the Philly fans really make one have to laugh, Guys not to tuff Dusting the Trophy Case down in Cheese land, that – very bare Super bowl Cub bard you have. Don’t even need any Silver polish or pledge ! Giants look better on paper, who knows….good news for all teams was Kansas City and their phenomenal turnaround. What makes Football better for fans than baseball, competitive balance truly gives all teams a chance !
