Lance Moore scheduled to visit Steelers

Wide receiver Lance Moore’s long run with the Saints came to an end when the team released him just before the start of free agency to create cap space.

Had Moore turned in a better 2013 season, the Saints may have found themselves with a tougher decision. Moore had just 37 catches for 457 yards, though, and the Saints found other receivers that were more productive to fill out the lineup.

With Emmanuel Sanders gone to Denver and Jerricho Cotchery looking for work with other teams, the Steelers may not be quite as well stocked for the 2014 season. That explains why they’re bringing Moore in for his first reported visit since parting ways with the Saints.

Jason LaCanfora of CBS Sports reports that Moore will visit with the Steelers on Tuesday. Antonio Brown makes a fine leader for the receiving corps, but there are just eight other 2013 catches among wide receivers that will definitely return to the team. That could make Moore’s experience an appealing trait for the Steelers whether or not they lose Cotchery to free agency.

Well, they will get themselves one terrific route runner…

    He had “just 37 catches?”

That would make him an A-lister here.

The Steelers are doing Big Ben a disservice by not getting him any weapons. Their offense looks pretty bad so far.

One of the most underrated WR in the league. Whoever gets em, he’s worth it

  5. ravenswhat says: Mar 17, 2014 9:10 AM

I’m sure that will turn it around for the Steelers.

Lance Moore WAS reliable and a good route runner finding open spots on the field several years ago, but now he is just Steelers scrap metal with that Cap trouble and aging team. Seriously, not trying to troll Steelers. Rothlesberger reminds me of Dan Marino. He never had the balance of weapons at any time. When the Oline was good he had no RB. When the WRs were good he had no line. He could have been a Top 3 QB in my opinion.

People visit the Steelers, while other teams sign players.

Black belt in Karate, but only gets penalized for excessive celebration. He catches everything thrown near him, high throws, low throws, it doesn’t matter.

hit that nae nae lance moore lol

Whatever they do with Moore, they should concentrate on getting Cotchery back.
Derek Moye should be a bigger factor this year as well. 6-5, 215, and caught the first regular season pass thrown to him in the NFL for a TD on a fade pattern…then was inexplicably pretty much forgotten about and inactive the rest of the season?! He made another really tough catch and dropped one after being walloped, yet the now-departed Emmanuel Sanders, a comparitive Smurf, was allowed to drop a number of crucial passes with no repercussions. Never quite got that last season…

He’ll be good for 10 touchdowns a season, and that’s just in the ravens and bengals games.

He is a player that comes thru in the clutch. He would be a great addition to any organization.

Just bring back Cotchery already. They guy wants to play for the Steelers and catch passes from Ben.

The Steelers just do their homework and never reach for anyone. Depending on how the draft goes, this could be their bounce back season. Setting themselves up in free agency so they don’t have to reach for any particular position in the draft.

I looked up his career stats page. He was targeted 54 times, made 37 catches, got 26 first downs and two touchdowns last year. Sounds like a classic possession receiver. Also, he only has a single fumble in his nine year career. A team could definitely do worse.

We’ll see if this visit turns into a signing. Saints’ 5th best receiver with 37 catches, 457 yards, 2 TDs in a Drew Brees pass heavy offense. With Ben he’ll all but vanish but Steeler fans will rank it right up there with Revis going to the Patriots.

It will be hard to see Lance in another uniform, but it was not my decision. He’s got some of the best hands in the business. He can thread the needle in traffic like no one else. Consistent route runner and a really great guy. Whom ever gets him is lucky.

Steelers offense was on fire the last half of the season. Haters gonna hate. Lev Bell is a stud and it doesn’t matter who your WR’s are when you have a Future HOF QB throwing it to you.

Why haven’t the Eagles tapped this guy to replace Jason Avant? Oh that’s right, because he’s the same age as Avant. Snap. #wrongsideof30

At least there wasn’t any chest bumps to chants of Ozzie Ozzie like the signing of Smith caused.
I guess it’s easy to overlook that behavior because your a raven fan and that’s ok….right? No bias…..right? right?

This is the internet, no one can chest bump on the internet.

lance moore is a quality receiver who would definitely help the receivers. as far as 10 tds vs the ravens and bengals, not sure where that comes from. its not like anyone has ever done that. and to the poster who compared ben to marino. in all honesty, no joking, ben is a very good qb. but to compare him to marino…thats absurd. marino is an all time great. top 10 ever. ben isnt in that league. and how do you know smashmouth is a ravens fan…believe it or not, its not only people in baltimore who dislike the steelers.

He’s a 3rd down safety blanket. He’ll catch it when it counts, and in traffic.

  24. mdd913 says: Mar 17, 2014 11:33 PM

Very good receiver. Hurt a little bit too often, but when he’s healthy he’s money. Anybody looking for a Welker-type receiver would do great to sign him.

  25. jaypell says: Mar 18, 2014 1:01 AM

Pick him up already…Don’t let him visit another team

  26. aurora0044 says: Mar 21, 2014 4:13 PM

Looks like I just became a Steelers fan
