Louis Murphy visiting Buccaneers

The Buccaneers have addressed several positions since the start of free agency, but they haven’t brought in any wide receivers.

That could change if a meeting with Louis Murphy goes well. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Murphy is visiting with the team on Tuesday.

Murphy appeared to be on track for a productive career as a receiver early in his career with the Raiders as he caught 75 passes and flashed plus-speed during the 2009 and 2010 seasons in Oakland. He had just 15 catches in 2011, however, and was dealt to the Panthers before the 2012 season. Murphy had 25 catches in Carolina and slumped to six with a struggling Giants offense last season before becoming a free agent.

If Murphy lands in Tampa, he’ll move to the top of the list of receivers battling for a job behind starters Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams. Tiquan Underwood is a free agent and Chris Owusu is currently tops among the receivers behing Jackson and Williams on the depth chart with 13 catches for 114 yards last season.
