PFT Live: Jared Veldheer, Raiders talk with Scott Bair

The Raiders watched left tackle Jared Veldheer sign with the Cardinals early in free agency and it seemed that they were set to spend money that Veldheer might have gotten on Rodger Saffold instead.

Saffold’s contract wound up getting bounced because of concerns about his shoulder, though, and the Raiders are still looking for a sure starter at left tackle. On Tuesday’s PFT Live, Mike Florio will speak to Scott Bair of CSN Bay Area to find out how they plan to remedy that issue. They’ll also take a look at the signings that the Raiders actually did complete over the last week to plot the course of the organization moving forward.

In a nice bit of symmetry, Veldheer will also be a guest on Tuesday’s show. Florio will talk to him about what drew him to Arizona, his reunion with quarterback Carson Palmer and his plans for the rest of the offseason.

It all gets started at noon ET and you can watch it all live by clicking right here.

Veldheer is being replaced by Menelik Watson. Word has it that Reggie was planning on moving Veldheer to RT and that’s why the team signed Austin Howard to play RT immediately after Veldheer left.

Jared is a beast, I think he more than capably can play LT, wish him the best of luck in AZ, he’s gna need it vs Sf,sea, and stl. But I’ve said it before, the few games Watson played in last season he looked like a manimal! He was mauling anyone in sight into the turf! Hes alittle light, but He’ll be just fine. now if we could somehow snag Melton and resign cwood! #RAIDERNATION

I think the Raiders could have kept Veldheer and Houston both, but just wanted to move on. Both were quality starters who will benefit their new teams but nobody to lose sleep over.

The Raiders signed the best WR, best LB, best OL, best DE, and best DT available in free agency!

Even on horrible teams someone’s gotta make tackles and someone’s gotta block. That doesn’t make them great players.

He’s a RT playing LT. Overpaid for him. Smart kid tho

As a Raider fan I like Jared as a player and just a good guy , He wants to win ..but in 2 years the Raiders have a better chance winning their division that the cardinals winning theirs IMHO , besides the NFC is about 12 teams deep ! just sain .

We need Watson to step up big time its time to put your big boy pads on and lets go. I would like to see us try to bring melton in definitely and resign woodson dont know why we havent done that yet. Then we should try to draft either Mack or Watson. And also whats wrong with Micahel Vick? I think hes definitely better than Shaub or Sanchez, plus a lot of these football players like Vick and i think signing him will give other player the confidence to sign with us.

The good thing: Veldheer does have the body of the Hulk.

The bad thing: he also has his face.

Did someone really write that the Raiders have a chance to win the division within two years?

Geez, that image looks like a waitress just planted four Big Macs, a family order of fries, and a 24-ounce Dr. Pepper in front of him.
