The Colts have added an extra kicker in advance of offseason workouts and training camp, signing ex-Seahawk Carson Wiggs, the club announced Tuesday.
In a corresponding roster move, the Colts waived offensive guard Zach Allen.
The 24-year-old Wiggs figures to take some practice and preseason reps, which will serve to reduce the wear and tear on 42-year-old Adam Vinatieri.
Nevertheless, this is an job opportunity for Wiggs, who gets to show the Colts what he can do. Moreover, any preseason work he gets won’t hurt his name recognition with other teams.
A Purdue product, Wiggs spent stints with the Seahawks before the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
