Calvin Pace hopes Jets bring Antonio Cromartie back

Last year, the Jets released linebacker Calvin Pace to help their cap situation before bringing him back at a lower salary down the road.

That worked out well for the team as Pace set a career high with 10 sacks while starting every game for a defense that did much of the heavy lifting in an 8-8 season. Pace, who re-signed with the team again this offseason, hopes that lightning can strike twice with cornerback Antonio Cromartie because he isn’t sure the team has enough depth at cornerback without the released veteran.

“Yeah. Yes and no. Don’t get me wrong, we have some players on the roster that still can go out and get the job done,” Pace said, via the New York Daily News. “Hopefully we can get (Cromartie) back. I hope that is still in the plans.”

The Jets visited with Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie last weekend, but he wound up signing with the Giants and leaving Cromartie as the top available corner on the open market. The Cardinals briefly looked like a landing spot for Cromartie last week, but no deal materialized. That would leave the Jets an opening to bring Cromartie back, although there’s no reason to think a reunion is imminent.
