Seahawks sign offensive lineman Steve Schilling

The Seahawks would like to add to their offensive line this offseason, but aren’t making the same splashes there they are at other spots.

According to a tweet from his agent Doug Hendrickson, former Chargers offensive lineman Steve Schilling has signed with the Seahawks.

Say that five times fast.

Schilling wasn’t tendered as a restricted free agent by the Chargers. He spent three years there after they took him in the sixth round of the 2011 Draft.

The Seahawks also picked up former Packers lineman Greg Van Roten this offseason, as they look for parts for a group that was decidedly mix-and-match last year.

  1. Local kid. Disappointed Huskies fans by choosing Michigan over UW and then struggled to standout.

Not a guaranteed roster spot but the more competition for these guys, the better.

  2. I’m a seahawks fan but I’m not sure if i can really trust our evaluation on Offensive line talent. We would be in a serious trouble without Tom Cable..

  3. Schilling grew up 10 minutes north of the Seahawks HQs and training facility. Maybe some hometown pride will inspire this once blue chip prospect into success.

It’s a shame current NCAA Pres. Mark Emmert was allowed to destroy the Husky football program, or guys like Schilling would have stayed home for college ball.

  4. Invite all of his ex-girlfriends to view practices from the slope at the VMAC. That’ll be incentive enough for him to excel, or hear about it. 🙂

  5. Im sorry I know most fans of a superbowl winning team are going to be loud and proud. But reading comment sections for several different sports pages like this over the past year, seahawks fans kind of suck. Im getting sick of so many arrogant fans lol.

  6. For all the people that want to bash the Hawk fans for being arrogant or whine about how terrible we are…why come on our threads and do the same then? You are no better than we are. Get a life.

In an interview I saw a few weeks back, Tom stated that Pete gave him the authority to grab guys that HE wanted, which was one of the reasons why Tom wanted to work for Pete. The O-Line is Tom’s baby and has very little to do with Pete or John Schneider.

  8. As a Chargers fan… Who???

My Chargers have started everyone under the sun at OL in the last 3 years due to injury and lack of skill, yet I’ve STILL never heard of this guy…

Anyway, good luck to you. You’re heading to a better team.

  9. so…you believe every linemen that we’ve drafted so far were hand-picked by Tom Cable?

Joey, Allen had 11.5 sacks last year, how many 49er players had that many? Also, maybe the Santa Clara 49ers should win a Super Bowl this century before you talk smack…..

  12. Steve Schilling signed with the Seahawks. Steve Schilling signed with the Seahawks. Steve Schilling signed with the Seahawks. Steve Schilling signed with the Seahawks. Steve Schilling signed with the Seahawks.

    HA!

  13. Kiss the ring haters. Ppl luv to hate when you’re winning. Unless u live in WA or follow the Chargers, you’ve prob never heard of him. Wat have the vikings or whiners done lately? Watch the nfc west champ finished the job!

  14. Steve Schiling played his high school ball at Bellevue High School, the same school that I graduated at in 1967. Not only did Schiling go to BHS but so did David DeCastro who is another OL who went to Stanford and was an All American and was a first round draft pick of the Steelers. Bellevue has won 6 straight 3A state championships and 10 out of the past 12 years. Of late the also have turned out Myles Jack who went to UCLA and was both offensive and defensive freshman of the year in the Pac 12 last year playing as a true freshman. And graduating this year and going to the UW is Budda Baker who s another duel threat but will be a defensive back at Udub. Bellevue turns out a lot of kids that go on to colleges on football scholarships and one of MaxPreps 10 most dominant high school programs in the country. Two years ago they were Sports Illustrated national champions and this year on MaxPreps finished 10th in the country. There are over 16,000 high schools in the country so that is quite an achievement. They have won something like 47 games in a row which is the 3rd longest in the country and have beaten 5A Texas powerhouse Trinity as well as Grant HS in Sacramento and several other out of state teams that are of state championship levels. Six or seven years ago the beat a California team, De Lasalle not sure of the spelling but they broke their all time national win streak which was 156 games I believe. To those who are questioning Schilings pedigree need not to worry as he has been taught to win not only in high school but also at Michigan. It is great to see another local boy to play for the Seahawks as well as Jermaine Kearse, Lakes HS if I recall and the U of W. I hope Chris Petersen keeps out top talent at home as they can play with anyone.
