Report: Panthers agree to deal with Tiquan Underwood

Underwood AP

The Panthers now have another wide receiver.

And perhaps the best haircut in the NFL.

According to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun, the Panthers have agreed to terms with the veteran wideout.

If not for his distinctive high-top, Underwood is probably best known for being cut by the Patriots the day before the Super Bowl.

He has good speed and was moderately productive for the Buccaneers.

Given the scarcity of wideouts in Charlotte, that might be enough to earn a roster spot. They now have two veterans, along with Jerricho Cotchery, as they attempt to rebuild a group decimated by free agency and the release of Steve Smith.

With Cotchery and Underwood, this Panthers WR corps is downright SCARY

Why is Aaron Wilson from the Baltimore Sun reporting this pick up? Isn’t this a Carolina/Tampa regional deal?

Good signing. He’s a hard worker and a great addition for our special teams.

Well at least they’re making moves now. Maybe not spectacular, but Im glad to see GMan showing some interest the WR way. Now if we could land DeSean!!!

Only Britt and Jackson are WR1 types. Underwood and Cotchery complementary pieces, but hardly an upgrade.

    best hair in the game

    Nice :)

This is not a good signing. Underwood is a receiver with marginal skills. See Jaguars, Patriots, and Bucs. Another low budget type players Gettleman craves. I am sure Cam will be impressed. Two will get you one this guys does not make the final 53.

This year of my carolina panthers wr Corp is by far better then last year its just if smitty was still with the team it would of been a super bowl run. All that could of been looked at would of been OL in CB’S in SS

He has had a bunch of good moments in Tampa, but the biggest issue I had with him is he appears to be a bit scared of going over the middle. Against Philly last year he clearly cuts off a route towards the middle because he would get drilled to catch it, which led to an interception. If he can get over his fear of the middle he can be a very solid receiver.

    Congratulations Kid N Play.

I find it laughable that people are hating on the Panthers for this and the Cotchery signing. We don’t have the money to spend on big time WRs, they have so much money already tied up in CJ and Hardy.

People please understand that they are doing everything the way they are doing it because in the next two years, they are going to have to spend a ton of cash to sign Cam and Luke to long term deals.

The Panthers are playing this pretty much how they have to right now.

    Better hair than Polamalu?

  14. flmike says: Mar 21, 2014 12:51 PM

The Panthers people need to author a book “How to go from 12-4 to 4-12 in one off season”

I wouldn’t say he has the best haircut, but at last it’s natural. Better than the fake rasta hair extensions so popular in the league today.

Kid N Play for the win! lol

Another role player…Underwood will be fighting to make the roster when Carolina drafts a WR. If they got Desean Jackson this would be a completely different WR corp.

Aaron Wilson reported it first because he’s one of the best reporters out there. A slight notch below Bob McGinn.

Get ready for dropped passes up in CAR.

  22. pantherfan40 says: Mar 21, 2014 1:23 PM

The haters are so ignorant big upgrade from ginn and lafell

  23. denverwally says: Mar 21, 2014 1:44 PM

He has neither good speed nor good hands. This is just another warm body at the veteran minimum to take up a roster spot.

    Fantasy gem.

Somewhere Steve Smith got to be shaking his head.

  27. junkmtb says: Mar 21, 2014 2:44 PM

who cares what smith says or thinks at this point!!!

  28. tarcats1 says: Mar 21, 2014 3:27 PM

I am happy to see LaFell gone, he dropped too many balls last year in critical situations. As for Smith, I felt like they should have let him go last offseason, not because of diminishing skills because he is still a beast, but because Cam needs to show that he can make this “his team” before they give him the big money. I don’t think Cam would be able to do that as long as Smith remained on the team. Cotchery and Underwood are definitely upgrades over Ginn and LaFell, and don’t forget that Olsen is still on the roster. Also D.Will is a monster coming out of the backfield. I really don’t see where the Panthers are any worse off from last year with the exception of Gross retiring.

And for those of you screaming about trading for Jackson, that would be a huge mistake. He is a “ME” player and would be a cancer to the team.

They’re going withe the Patriots 2013 game plan. No name, Practice squad WRs with HOF QB……Can Newton!!? Uh oh!!!!!

  30. whysomanylosers says: Mar 21, 2014 10:34 PM

obviously CAR is desperate for receivers… CAR fan is delusional if they the think this is some sort of upgrade.
