James Ihedigbo tweets he’s joining Detroit Lions

It seemed all but a formality that safety James Ihedigbo would end up with the Detroit Lions after visiting the team earlier this month.

The deal now is apparently done.

Ihedigbo tweeted that he has agreed to a contract with the Lions. Per Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun, it’s a two-year deal for Ihedigbo.

The move will reunited Ihedigbo with Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin, who served as Ihedigbo’s position coach with the Ravens the past two seasons.

Ihedigbo started all 16 games for the Ravens last season and put together his best season as a pro. Ihedigbo racked up 101 tackles with three interceptions and two forced fumbles.

The signing of Ihedigbo gives the Lions a proven veteran option in the back-end of their defense that is already familiar with Austin and the defense he’ll run in Detroit.

Why didn’t they at least go after Ryan Clark? Great, a backup safety.

Good player, better person. He will bring some class to the Lions along with Caldwell

He should also tweet: Goodbye, Super Bowl! Now that I’m a Lion, I won’t be visiting you anytime soon!

Solid player who had to follow in Ed Reed’s footsteps. Good luck in Detroit, Digs!

This is a good addition, but the Lions still need a stronger backfield.

This kinda lets the Lions draft the best available player, with the #10 pick. Plenty of holes to fill, but no one spot that’s a giant problem.

Great move by Detroit! Cant wait to see what happens in the draft

Solid player and great team guy. Ravens liked him a lot. Good luck to him in Motown.

Not sure about this. They said he has limited ball skills but very good Agianst the run. The Lions have been good Agianst the run but
Awful against the pass. Why not get a Coverage safety?

Given the Lions’ salary cap restraints, this signing caps a reasonably acceptable pre-draft free agency season. They probably overpaid for Pettigrew and could’ve re-allocated some of the spending to address glaring holes at corner and depth issues at DE but at least, on paper, they are a little bit better than 2013. With 8 draft picks and a new coaching staff that might be a bit smarter and less smug, the team might actually be in legit playoff contention for the entire season and not just the first 8 weeks, like years past.

Good addition for Detroit, but they should probably still draft a Safety.

Okay signing, I’d rather have Delmas back. Interested to see what the numbers are.

He should be a Viking. Best team ever. Skol!!! And ice fishing.

  26. tombstoned says: Mar 25, 2014 7:26 PM

Good player! Better than any of the other garbage on that team. Would like to have had him back as a Raven. Glad we could unload Caldwell on them however, cuz that guy is clueless.
