Stabbing of Mike Williams being investigated as domestic dispute

A strange story has taken another odd turn, as an arrest warrant has been issued for the brother of Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Williams after a Sunday stabbing, which Williams claimed was accidental.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, a warrant has been filed for Williams’ brother, 23-year-old Eric Baylor, on a felony count of aggravated battery/domestic violence.

A Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said that sworn statements from witnesses contradicted Williams’ initial claim to investigators that the laceration in his thigh was the result of “horseplay.” Williams was treated and released from the hospital last night.

Bucs General Manager Jason Licht, who had previously expressed some frustration with Williams’ off-field behavior, said Monday that he’s still in the process of collecting facts (as the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is, apparently).

“Disappointed, just that we had a player in that situation that could have been seriously injured,” Licht said. “Our primary focus is making sure he’s OK. We’re gathering all the facts. We know about as much as you right now. Before I make any comment, I want to know what the situation was. I don’t know any other facts right now.”

Licht said he’s reached out to Williams but hasn’t heard back, which didn’t necessarily surprise him.

“I’m sure he’s got a lot of things going on, and we have a lot of things going on right here,” Licht said from the owners meetings. “We do want to find out how he is health-wise and where his mindset is.”

That search coincides with the cops looking for his brother, and which will tell us more about the latest unusual situation involving Williams.

I’ve never heard of horse-playing with butcher knives before, but I don’t get around much. I suppose this will be a non-football injury.

Looks like Mike is trying to protect his brother. If he’s smart he will get away from the people that keep causing him to slip. Otherwise, he is going to waste a huge opportunity (if he hasn’t already).

When he was here in Syracuse he had a number of issues. Never his fault was his claim. Mike is a immature person with a bad group around him.

Will Mike ever get it and wake up that his friends are big part of his problems and his own attitude is the other? I am betting not.

This is the type of player who can reward you big but let you down 2 times as much with his personal issues.

Hopefully he will not be sharing a cell with AH someday.

This has all the makings of a credible story from an NFL WR

    1) he and his brother don’t have the same last name, check
    2) wrestling, involving knives, check
    3) someone who didn’t do anything wrong, on the lamb from the police, check
    4) idiot WR who recently got overpaid for being a #2 WR (Thanks Marc Dominic) now acting the fool every chance he gets.

Its odd, but you never see stories like this coming out of the NHL. Just something to think about.

witnesses contradicted Williams’ initial claim to investigators that the laceration in his thigh was the result of “horseplay.”

Earlier there was an article over this stating that it was the witnesses claiming that this was horseplay not Williams. so which is it. Somethings not adding up here so which is it.
