A strange story has taken another odd turn, as an arrest warrant has been issued for the brother of Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Williams after a Sunday stabbing, which Williams claimed was accidental.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, a warrant has been filed for Williams’ brother, 23-year-old Eric Baylor, on a felony count of aggravated battery/domestic violence.
A Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said that sworn statements from witnesses contradicted Williams’ initial claim to investigators that the laceration in his thigh was the result of “horseplay.” Williams was treated and released from the hospital last night.
Bucs General Manager Jason Licht, who had previously expressed some frustration with Williams’ off-field behavior, said Monday that he’s still in the process of collecting facts (as the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is, apparently).
“Disappointed, just that we had a player in that situation that could have been seriously injured,” Licht said. “Our primary focus is making sure he’s OK. We’re gathering all the facts. We know about as much as you right now. Before I make any comment, I want to know what the situation was. I don’t know any other facts right now.”
Licht said he’s reached out to Williams but hasn’t heard back, which didn’t necessarily surprise him.
“I’m sure he’s got a lot of things going on, and we have a lot of things going on right here,” Licht said from the owners meetings. “We do want to find out how he is health-wise and where his mindset is.”
That search coincides with the cops looking for his brother, and which will tell us more about the latest unusual situation involving Williams.
