Andy Reid: Eric Fisher is our left tackle

After going first overall in last year’s NFL draft, Eric Fisher was generally viewed as a disappointment in Kansas City. But Chiefs coach Andy Reid has big plans for Fisher’s future.

Reid said at the league meeting that he expects Fisher to be the Chiefs’ starting left tackle, the position the Chiefs were envisioning he would eventually hold when they picked him first overall.

“I think I’m going to move him to the left side,” Reid said of Fisher. “That’s where he played in college, although Donald Stephenson played there for me and I know he can do that too, but I think I’m going to start off with Eric at left and keep Donald at right and then we roll.”

Asked by Mike Florio at the league meeting if Fisher and Stephenson could switch sides, Reid said, “Well obviously we don’t anticipate that, but both have played both sides so we’re good either way.”

Last year Fisher played on the right side, but last year’s left tackle, Branden Albert, has left for Miami. If Fisher is as good as the Chiefs thought he would be when they drafted him, they should be able to move him over to the left side without missing a beat. If Fisher struggles, the Chiefs may have a big problem on their offensive line.
