Lovie Smith won’t blame Mike Williams for getting stabbed

Lovie Smith AP

If Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Williams was standing at the plate with two strikes, his latest incident is apparently just a bit outside.

Bucs coach Lovie Smith indicated that being stabbed by his brother didn’t necessarily fall under the umbrella of aggravating things Williams has been doing.

The information I’ve got is that Mike is a victim,” Smith said, via Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. “You can’t blame a guy for being a victim. Hopefully, we can get past this type of thing.”

Williams has run into various and sundry distractions since signing a $40 million contrct extension, but that was given to him by a General Manager and coach who no longer work for the Bucs.

So while Smith has previously indicated his frustration with Williams’ extracurricular activities, this one apparently won’t be a last straw.

Mike is simply one of those people who are victims of MANY coincidental happenings. He even wears his helmet OFF the field to protect himself from falling safes. Lovie couldn’t POSSIBLY think these series of unfortunate events could be REMOTELY connected to Mike’s self-selected choices in life…Lovie BLAMING Mike: NO way! Coach is looking FORWARD to dealing with Mike daily over many, many years!

    Mike Williams,

Please grow up. You have some decent talent, but ever since you got your $40 million, you have become a D-I-S-T-R-A-C-T-I-O-N.

Let your play on the field do your talking from here on out.

Nobody’s at fault here. It was just a rough housing session in the kitchen, and he fell on a knife that his brother was holding.

Well that’s really nice of him for not blaming Mike Williams…

Then I blame Lovie, it happened on his watch.

Umm…but who’s going to blame Lovie Smith for letting Revis go?

  7. ravenswhat says: Mar 25, 2014 2:55 PM

But seriously though, who gets stabbed by their brother? Usually not fine upstanding citizens. This stuff doesn’t just happen.

The coddling of players continues in Tampa for Lovie. Cedric Benson and Tank Johnson South.

    Mike’s brother will.

It’s not Lovie’s fault Revis left. Coaches don’t cut players. GM’s do! Most common misconception.

So Williams gets stabbed in his own house by his own brother, and plenty of people here are still blaming the guy? It’s not like he got stabbed in a strip club by someone he got into a fight with.

Context is everything. People that try to paint things in black and white are just blind to colorful reality.

Gee, Lovie never looked at the world through rose-colored glasses when he was with the Bears (cough).

He could have been cutting his brother off or telling him he needs shape up . His brother gets angry they tussle, and in Mike is stabbed. Since its family Mike tries to keep it quiet. That scenario is as plausible as any and would make Mike the victim.

Wow, waiting until all information is available before before cutting someone – shocking. Perhaps Mike was a victim, perhaps the investigation will show he wasn’t – but why not wait a few days/weeks to find out more information. Unbelievable the people that just say cut him when they have no idea what happened at this point.

You honestly don’t think Lovie was behind the Revis release????
