The Buccaneers’ free agent shopping continues well into March.

The club said Wednesday it had signed wide receiver Louis Murphy to a one-year contract. The 26-year-old Murphy played in 14 games for the Giants a season ago, catching six passes for 37 yards and a touchdown.

A sixth-year pro from Florida, Murphy has caught 121 passes for 1,744 yards and eight TDs in his NFL career. In addition to the Giants, he has played for the Panthers (2012) and Raiders (2009-2011).

Murphy attended Lakewood High School in St. Petersburg, Florida, which is about 30 miles southwest of Tampa.

Murphy gives the Buccaneers eight wide receivers on the roster, with Vincent Jackson at the head of the group. Mike Williams could also have an important role in the passing game, but he is recovering from a stab wound to his leg.

He caught that ball in the endzone.

Was kind of excited when the giants signed him as he is able to stretch the field…no one was stretching a damn thing there last year so I have no idea what this guy has left in the tank

Had some good performances for the raiders. Specially in an upset win over the steelers. Quite surprised how badly his careers gone downhill. Really showed something when he first entered the league.

“Murphy has caught 121 passes for 1,744 yards and eight TDs in his NFL career.”

Which isn’t all that bad for a depth signing. Figures to about to about 48 catches for 700 yards and 3 TDs per full season of snaps. Considering some of the QBing he had to deal with where he got to majority of his snaps, especially not bad.

Was part of the ridiculous WR group the Raiders have/had (Murphy, Jacoby Ford, Chaz Shilens, Denarius Moore, DHB) that are each healthy about 4-5 games a season.

He’s had a great season over the course of his career.

I had high hopes for him last season with Big Blue but it never materialized. Not that anything went particularly well for us last season……Yet we still went 7-9. I guess I’m a jaded fan, I wanted to pull my hair out and we were just a game or 2 out of the playoffs. Makes me wonder if I would even be alive if I was a browns/Jags/Raiders fan!!!LOL

He’s probably better than any recievers Turdbay has.

Should say “9 TD’s” in his NFL career.

When he was here in Carolina he caught some difficult passes but dropped more that were thrown in stride practically gift wrapped.

Good luck with that one. Point him in the right direction and you should be fine.

We also never got to see his blazing speed in Carolina. He seems to have talent but never manages to put it all together.

I hope he gets on track. We need the depth at WO.

I like this signing! Adds depth, plus…. Murphy brings good route running ability, and also can play special teams as well. Heard he ran a 4.32 40 in the 2009 combine. We sure can use some speed on the offensive side.
