The Dolphins are adding one of the top backs left in free agency.

The club has come to terms on a one-year deal with Denver’s Knowshon Moreno, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Thursday.

Moreno led the AFC-champion Broncos in rushing in 2013, racking up 1,038 yards and 10 touchdowns on 241 carries. He was also a key contributor in the passing game, hauling in 60 receptions for 548 yards and three TDs.

Moreno is likely to compete with third-year pro Lamar Miller for work in the Miami backfield.

Moreno, who turns 27 in June, was No. 76 on PFT’s Free Agent Hot 100.

  1. This guy isn’t very dynamic as a runner, but is a very solid in pass protection and as a back-out-of-the-backfield. Pretty crazy that in today’s NFL a guy with 1500 combined yds and 13 total TDs gets inked to a one year prove it deal. I’m interested to see what his contract is worth. My guess is between 1.5-3 million. Tannehill should like this pick-up…great 3rd down back.

  2. Peyton Manning isn’t part of the package, just keep that in mind and don’t expect Moreno to match last seasons numbers and he should be a solid addition to Miami. A one year deal was the smart way to go as Moreno can prove that he isn’t a product of Manning and his offensive system.

  3. I am so giddy I picked up Monte Ball of my fantasy keeper league waiver wire right before the season ended .

  4. Great pick up. This GM is doing it right. Moreno pass blocking alone is huge. Help give our qb more time n he will prove he is great. Now next challenge is to see how the GM does in the draft.

  5. bad bad move Hickey & the other idiots didn’t even look a getting Blount who is a MUCH better back!!! 1 year deal to show that he sucks!!! Why do you think the Broncows (broncos) were so eager to get rid of him!!!

  6. As Broncos fan, you Dolphins fans are gonna absolutely love him. Works his ass off and has a major chip on his shoulder.

Dude is all around solid. Thanks for the memories Knowshon!

  7. The Pats would never in a million years let Blount go , much less go to Miami . . . for more on this type of move , see former Fins GM candidate Nick Caserio.

  8. Fins don’t have one super back but have three above average backs with each one having the potential to be better. Still need a few more pieces before this team can contend for the division title. Pats still own it and will unless there are more signings to come.

Miami is having an excellent free agency. Watch out!!
    ______________

Well you “won” free agency last year and all we heard offseason was how the Pats were finished and that Fins would win the division.

How’d that work out for ya ?

  10. Moreno was outstanding at times last season… with a Hall of Fame QB and a great offensive line. But whatever, I’m sure he’ll do fine. Things always work out great in Miami.

  11. When people call my Jets a circus, I just smile and think of the Dolphins…

So they signed someone. Pfft. Great.

  12. Nice, I like it a lot. we need as much pass protection as possible. Please tell me Daniel Thomas, another wonderful Jeff Ireland draft pick that he traded up to get is now released. Ireland drafted that bum over Randall Cobb, Demarco Murray and Steven Ridley to name a few. I wish I could smack that dude upside his dumb head!

  13. You got to love it when the haters can’t stand to see a team sign a guy who will be an upgrade for the fish. Bill p.s. Just so you know, Jeff Ireland is not a Dolphin anymore, also new OC, new O line coach and a better O line, so perhaps they will do a lot better then last year, at least on paper they are better.

  14. Like the 1 yr deal, lets see if he can produce without the Peyton effect. If he does or is a solid upgrade we’ll have the inside track on an extension, if not, thanks for the effort and good luck.

  15. For the guy who wanted Blount, that guy plays well about 1out of every 5 games, way too inconsistent. This is a good signing, dual threat and good blocker, signing him puts the same pressure on the linebackers that Wallace does on the safeties, they have to account for him catching the ball on third down which will give clay and the slot receiver one less defender to beat.

Still see them drafting a big back in the mid rds for depth. This teams offensive personnel is starting to look a lot like the eagles, compare position to position, McCoy is obviously better, but very similar everywhere else. Oh, and defense is much better.

  16. If he can pass protect, I love the signing! Thomas and Miller are PATHETIC at picking up pass rushers.

  17. 8-8. Enough said !

    It’s 8-8. ‘Nuff said, Dork!

  18. Excellent pick. .. I like what we are doing so far. Looks like we are sync now. Ross if we get to the 2 round of the playoffs I will take back everything I said to you. …..publicly …..

  19. Anyone that talks bad about the fins should go back and look at the season. There r at least four games when we came back or had the lead late in the fourth. Our kicker really screwed us this year, our o line was a joke. N yet we manage to beat every afc playoff team. Besides Denver and the chiefs bc we did not play them. We beat the pats, chargers, bengals, and colts. We got a good left tackle. N now Moreno aka great pass blocker. When we draft solid. The dolphins can n should be back to there dominant place in the afc. Our qb has the it factor. N when he learns how to hit Wallace deep game over.

  20. Winning football is a combination of all the right pieces, working in sync. Moreno brings a lot of versatility. Blount was a one-trick pony and a non-factor in NE’s final game. So no, adding Blount wouldn’t necessarily translate to wins in Miami. Now look at Denver. They have a HOF QB, but were embarrassed and exposed. So, just having a QB isn’t enough, either.

To win a superbowl you need a very tough defense, and an offense with several threats, in the air and on the ground, to keep the D off balance. That’s why Seattle was so successful. I also think the 49er’s have a great roster and now they have a slew of early draft picks this year, they will take a step up.

You see how some teams are arrow up, and other teams are struggling, and the teams that win are balanced and play team ball, have a great QB, some playmakers on both sides of the ball, and aren’t starting from scratch every year in the draft.

  21. I know getting value for money is important aka the one year prove it deal but why us fans keep bringing it up it’s like we’re all turning into accountants. More interested in if he is a good player and the more I read between the lines is that he is. Signing players with something to prove more often than not works out good. His stats mean he has nothing to prove but he will feel his old team must pay for their lack of faith and that’s good for us because he seems to bring a lot to the table

  22. After a 2013 season like that, how could the Broncs let him go!? This kid is a great back, and he would have been much greater by now if he had more touches. He has always been moved in and out, preventing him from getting consistent, every down playing time, which would catapult him into greatness. He is a very good RB and a fine young man.
