Jets sign Dimitri Patterson

The Jets had three players in for visits on Monday and two of them have now signed deals with the team.

Cornerback Dimitri Patterson will join wide receiver Jacoby Ford on the roster for the 2014 season. The Jets announced that the former Dolphin signed with the team on Tuesday afternoon, shortly after they made the same announcement about Ford. PFT has learned, via a league source, that it is a one-year, $3 million deal.

Patterson had four interceptions in six games for the Dolphins last season and has been effective throughout his career when he’s been able to stay on the field. He hasn’t been able to do that consistently, though, and he’ll have to solve that problem to provide the kind of help the cornerback-light Jets need at the position.

Antonio Cromartie was released earlier in the offseason and a visit with Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie preceded his decision to sign with the Jets’ co-tenants at MetLife Stadium. 2013 first-rounder Dee Milliner and 2010 first-rounder Kyle Wilson were at the top of the Jets’ depth chart at corner and Patterson will presumably slide in beside them.

Guard Rich Ohrnberger also visited with the Jets on Monday.

Can’t wait to watch this guy get torched by Edelman and Brady.

  2. nickyleacy says: Apr 1, 2014 6:33 PM

He’ll start for them and do a pretty good job IF he can stay healthy.

I know, even with all his injury problems, I would have much preferred Patterson returning to Miami on this deal rather than overpaying (or even paying at all) Cortland Finnegan.

  3. bleedrangerblue says: Apr 1, 2014 6:38 PM

@grimreaper. You can have ME-vis. He will be burned this yr like last. You’ll see. As Bart Scott said “can’t wait”.

  4. jetsclaps says: Apr 1, 2014 6:39 PM

I’ll take it, he played better than Cromartie last year.

  5. bleedrangerblue says: Apr 1, 2014 6:42 PM

I could of played better than Cromartie. It was painful to watch.

Sucks to see him go as a Dolphin fan. Guy is a stud when healthy 3 games per year.

  8. greenandwhite07 says: Apr 1, 2014 6:53 PM

I love when Pats fans troll Jets news. Feeling nervous @grimreaper12?
Brady is getting old and Revis is lame. You get to deal with his horrible attitude now. He didn’t do anything in Tampa which is why they cut him. His ACL will be blown out by week 3, haha, Patsuck!

  9. jetsfaninindy says: Apr 1, 2014 6:53 PM

Izdik is great at signing low risk high reward
players. Jacoby Ford and Patterson help.
But come on bro, make an impact move already!

  10. bostonian13 says: Apr 1, 2014 6:53 PM

Now every Jets fan is downing Revis. Lol, ok. If Jets corners won’t be getting burned by our slot guys than your QB will be tossing US touchdowns.

  11. ryann252013 says: Apr 1, 2014 6:54 PM

Revis will get burned deep by either Ford or Hill, mark that down on your calendar.

  12. fishyinalittledishy says: Apr 1, 2014 7:03 PM

Seems like the afc East is signing a lot of banged up corners will be interesting to see who is left standing.

  13. jetsmmt says: Apr 1, 2014 7:04 PM

Revis can’t even cover Stephen Hill. Oh it’s true, it’s true.

  14. sethreal says: Apr 1, 2014 7:12 PM

I’m a Phins fan and I’m kinda mad we let him go. Solid player when healthy. He is aggressive and creates turnovers. Hate to see him go to a division rival.

  15. tarniman says: Apr 1, 2014 7:21 PM

As a Dolphins fan this is a guy that spent a lot of time last season waiting to get healthy. Every week it was like I wonder if he will play. With the exception of only six games I was disappointed week to week. Now he is on the Yets….now their fans can feel that disappointment week to week

  16. nyjetlife says: Apr 1, 2014 7:26 PM

That midget Edelman is not torching anyone . He will get slept like the jets always do to him . Look up Landry on Edelman . That’s what happens to “minitrons”

  17. tarniman says: Apr 1, 2014 7:28 PM

The guy appeared in only six games last season but left early due to injury in four out of six games he appeared in. So the Dolphins only got TWO full games out this guy last season out of 16 game season. …I see why they cut him

  18. joemontanawasthegreatest says: Apr 1, 2014 7:35 PM

Probably a good deal, just depends on the $$$ he is oft injured and 30+ at season start. Good player.

Where were you when the Jets beat Miami in the last game? You shot your mouth off the week before, and ran like a rabbit.
86- years Red Sox didn’t win a WS
    46-Jets SB lapse
    40 to go!

  20. grimreaper12 says: Apr 1, 2014 7:57 PM

A down year for Revis…statistically he graded out as the best corner.
Jets will challenge the Bills for last place in the division.

  21. tarniman says: Apr 1, 2014 8:04 PM

Another former Dolphin on the Jets….what else is new. The Dolphins have whooped up the Yets so much over past few yrs that rexy have said what the heck I need their players a coaches (Tony Sparano)…lol…the list continues. …who’s next? Laughing = Yets

  22. tre747 says: Apr 1, 2014 8:07 PM

Miami is known for docs and surgeons, I hope Patterson is all fixed and the shine he deserves. Good CB, hate to see ya go brah, good luck.

  23. jpm557 says: Apr 1, 2014 8:13 PM

Rebus might get burned by Hill, but Hill probably won’t catch the ball

  24. baller2189 says: Apr 1, 2014 8:19 PM

Wouldn’t be suprised if the jets made it as a wildcard this year but won’t get much farther than that. Pats fans are almost as annoying as alabama redneck fans ha

  25. baller2189 says: Apr 1, 2014 8:21 PM

@tarniman the jets destroyed the dolphins in the last game of the season last year and they beat there butts every year dude. U have no idea what your talking about

  26. jetsarestacked says: Apr 1, 2014 8:24 PM

Love it when flipper fans talk bunk. Haven’t won a single playoff game since 2000!

  27. tarniman says: Apr 1, 2014 8:34 PM

@smaller2189 yes you are right but remember the Dolphins also lost to the Bills the week b4…they were not on on their game at the time. Why don’t you talk about about how they came to the Yets stadium and whooped up on ya’ll so bad that your starting QB was benched after the 1st half?

  28. td40 says: Apr 1, 2014 8:40 PM

He’s the kind of player that has three or four mind-bogglingly great performances per year. Unfortunately, he’s getting burned and racking up penalties in the other 12 or 13…

  29. patsfan1820 says: Apr 1, 2014 8:45 PM

Good signing hate to admit it. But still Jets need help on offense. Rex already knows how to run a good defense.

  31. 305phinphan says: Apr 1, 2014 8:53 PM

It’s amazing how many Jet fans call Revis garbage. The guy was coming off a torn ACL and still graded out as the best CB in football. Do you really think the Pats are scared? They went to the AFC Championship with no Wilfork, no Gronk, and with garbage receivers. I’m sure the Jets are one of the last teams the Pats are afraid of.

  32. RexCanCoach says: Apr 1, 2014 8:59 PM

Oh cry me a river Patriot fans. Bellichick and Brady have been bleeding your organization dry and your fanbase is trying oh sooo hard not to smash your respective heads thru the TV set for past 10 years of not winning with presumably the best QB and coach ever. Not my words but from your fellow bostonians who are REAL patriot fans. Your secret is out — and the misery is real and I wouldn’t trade places with you in 47 years.

  33. tarniman says: Apr 1, 2014 9:20 PM

I talk junk to Jets fans but the real enemy is the Pats..With the Pats however you have to battle the Pats and the refs. The Pats has favoritism from the Refs

  34. footballfan80 says: Apr 1, 2014 9:35 PM

I am a big Jets fan and I can tell you that unequivocally Revis is STILL the best corner in the game, bar none. He was coming off a torn ACL last year like you said and he still graded out the best corner by PFF. That’s 4 out of the 5 last years overall, or 4 out of the last 4 years when healthy, grading out as the best corner in the league.

Here is the most shocking thing about the #1 ranking compared to all the other corners he is ahead:

It doesn’t take into account the quality of the receivers he is guarding on a play by play basis (nor does it for any corner). Which is nuts because he is covering #1 receivers for most of games while other corners like Sherman is shutting down #2 receivers all game on the left side of the Seahawks defense 98% of the time last season. There is a reason Revis doesn’t have to say hes the best, while Sherman is constantly yapping that he is.

  36. sackexchange says: Apr 1, 2014 9:53 PM

So funny without Brady the pats are the bills he’s the only reason they win I was so happy when mo Lewis took Bledsoe out of the game and it was our worst nightmare. But it’s almost over. But the fish come on when’s the last time they made the playoffs when Dan was at the helm there not even on the radar.

  37. bsizemore68 says: Apr 1, 2014 9:54 PM

The fans are in distress about the lost to the Jets and Bills, why did the fish go south, the answer is easy, because on December 15 they beat the Pats 24-20, and went into a serious case of shock, and it took about 15 days to get over it, now you know the rest of the story. Bill

  39. j0esixpack says: Apr 1, 2014 10:52 PM

Could this be the year that the Jets break their tie with the Houston Oilers for eastern conference championship titles?

    No. Probably not.

  40. somethinghappeninghere says: Apr 1, 2014 11:09 PM

Considering the Jets have a tendency to sign ex-Dolphins, I am amazed the Dolphins have a winning record against the Jets since Rex Ryan took over in 2009…the record is 6-4 in favor of Fins…you’d think with all the ex-Dolphins it would be the other way around (while the Dolphins never sign ex-Jets, except for Jason Taylor who of course was originally on the Dolphins…and that includes Sparano too)…what amazes me is the Jets never sign ex-Patriots, you know, a team that actually wins ball games…no…instead they let former Jets go to the Patriots! You know, Revis?

  42. lrjets says: Apr 2, 2014 4:52 AM

Besides tarnish, what is the missing common denominator to Patriot success?

Eric Mangini………….. NE never won without him.
    That’s the truth.
