Panthers add John Ramsdell to offensive staff

The Panthers have apparently added an experienced offensive mind to staff.

And we say apparently, because it came out in about the most accidental, new media way possible.

Via Bill Voth of SportsXchange, acting on a tip from a Twitter follower and a message board, the Panthers now list John Ramsdell as a senior offensive assistant.

That’s a good get for a staff which needs all the help it can get (no word on whether Ramsdell can run routes). The longtime assistant coach under Dick Vermeil in the Greatest Show on Turf days, Ramsdell worked in San Diego with coach Ron Rivera.

He’ll help lend some passing-game ballast to a staff led by coordinator Mike Shula.

Now if they give him some receivers to move around along with Cam Newton and their backs, he might look smarter still.

With a name like that he would have been a perfect fit to serve as a football computer for St. Louis.

Why would an assistant coach run routes?

This just in and it is not an April Fool’s joke. Gettleman has just signed Mickey Mouse to be the Panthers #1 wideout in the 2014 season. Word has it the contract was laced with incentives and all the cheese he could eat and as we all know “Gettleman has a plan” to tank the entire 2014 season.

Great hire. Anyone who has coached offense on a Super Bowl team can do nothing but help a staff led by Mike Shula – because Shula has been medically brain-dead since losing his 4th Iron Bowl as a coach.

Hurney signed Mickey Mouse to back up Jake Delhomme in 2007. It didn’t work out.
