Raiders, 49ers call LAPD about Jackson, but not Redskins

LAPD badge

In the old days, you could nail down a potential free agent player or coaches whereabouts by calling the agent or tracking the tail numbers on a private plane.

These days, you have to call the cops.

According to A.J. Perez of NJ.com, the Raiders and the 49ers have checked with the Los Angeles Police Department regarding DeSean Jackson’s reported links to gang members.

The Redskins, however, have not called the LAPD about the report.

What that means as to the pursuit of Jackson at the moment is unclear, since he’s in Washington along with his agent.

But since each team employs “security guys” to dig into the background of all their players or prospective players, it’s reasonable that they want to make sure they have the latest on the guy.

In case, you know, he ends up “moving on,” from Dulles without a deal in hand.

Make it happen frisco! If the kid screws up while he’s on the team, then disipline his a$$! Pay him what he’s worth on the field and put a legal/entourage clause in his contract and let’s go get this ring!

  2. thegreatgabbert says: Apr 1, 2014 3:25 PM

Washington sent an investigator to the West Coast to make some inquiries, but he hasn’t been heard from since.

  3. logicalvoicesays says: Apr 1, 2014 3:26 PM

The Redskins are an equal opportunity employer. We’ll give a fair chance no matter if you are in a gang or choir. If you can play football and want to win Superbowls, you are a part of RedskinsNation. If not, we won’t sign you. Period. #HTTR

  4. snoqualmkanem says: Apr 1, 2014 3:27 PM

Good luck frisco, maybe you can win a game at home against the Seahawks by more than a couple of points.
Make sure to pay Kap a HUGE salary and commit a bunch of dollars to Desean.

  5. raiderlyfe510 says: Apr 1, 2014 3:31 PM

Redskins Front Office are a bunch of buffoons.

  6. kd75 says: Apr 1, 2014 3:31 PM

You hire Jack Walsh to talk to his old buddies on the force working the gang beat in South Central.

Officer Bob Hodges knows the straight dope on the gang members.

  7. grimreaper12 says: Apr 1, 2014 3:37 PM

    The 49ers need a QB.

  8. janvanflac says: Apr 1, 2014 3:46 PM

Of course. Because Dan Snyder is so stupid that he doesn’t care enough to do due diligence on a player with a questionable background.

  9. jayquintana says: Apr 1, 2014 3:47 PM

The Redskins not doing their due diligence? Gosh, who’d a thunk?

  10. bullcharger says: Apr 1, 2014 3:55 PM

Calling the LAPD is their grand scheme for background checks? I could do that. Also, it wouldn’t have helped with Hernandez as he had never been charged with anything.

  11. r8rsfan says: Apr 1, 2014 3:55 PM

I really doubt he’s going to end up in Oakland.

  12. andreboy1 says: Apr 1, 2014 4:06 PM

The fact of the matter is that a few years ago Seattle was more enthusiastic about the MLS Sounders than the Seahawks.

If they were as passionate about sports as they claim then the city wouldn’t have lost the Sonics, either.

Have fun with the mist, bigfoot sightings, and watered down coffee.

Any team that signs this idiot completely deserves what they get. What a drama queen

  14. doe22us says: Apr 1, 2014 4:09 PM

Snyder, is probably saying LAPD what is that? Clueless as heck.

  15. reptar310 says: Apr 1, 2014 4:14 PM

The redskins blow, I would play for less on either Bay Area team.

  16. wny49er says: Apr 1, 2014 4:19 PM

The Niner’s would be deadly with him, but I also heard they might be looking to get Andrea Johnson via trade w/Houston.

  17. djshnooks says: Apr 1, 2014 4:19 PM

    This is news?

He has no record we don’t know about, it’s all public information…why in the world would ANY team waste time speaking to the police about an alleged rumor?

The Raiders and 49ers are the fools in this situation…clearly they have people who don’t know how to use google.

  18. clssylssy says: Apr 1, 2014 4:21 PM

Every team has a “security guy” checking out prospective players? ??? Looks like the requirements for that job aren’t too stringent judging by some of the other numerous posts here on player/owner’s misbehavior…Gimme a break, these posts are getting beyond ridiculous. As I said before, Who Cares?

  19. brettfavresmidget says: Apr 1, 2014 4:32 PM

Word is that the sticking point in negotiations with the ‘skins is a request to replace maroon with blue in the unis.

  20. badmoonrison says: Apr 1, 2014 4:35 PM

If an interested franchise was smart, they’d just dial up the NSA…

  21. junkmagnet2013 says: Apr 1, 2014 4:37 PM

Over the course of his career (in a 16 game season), he has averaged 3.708 catches per game (356/6/16), and ZERO.3125 TD’s per game. Sure, he had a good season last year, but with those numbers, tell me how this guy is worth $10M+ per season?? Philly was smart. Just say NO Reggie – Not worth the coin! (or the headaches).

  22. nomoreseasontix says: Apr 1, 2014 4:43 PM

Why would they call the Redskins?

  23. mdf53 says: Apr 1, 2014 4:49 PM

There’s still a lot of hating going on out of some fearful people who just can imagine that one day Dan Snyder is going to make some right personnel moves and win another Super Bowl for DC.

He’s certainly not incompetent and as far as I know he hasn’t signed any felons, taken any drugs, kept any rapist, murderers, lost ownership of or left in the middle of the night with his franchise.

If there was truly a story to investigate, Dan Snyder wouldn’t be the negligent one, all of you fantasy reporters and rumor mills with twitter, Facebook and all of the other devices are the guilty ones.

In fact, since he is so irresponsible with his dealings as some of you want to put out there, why don’t you get the information and sell it to him and maybe he will be gullible enough to split the purse that he was going to give to DJAX.

It seems that it would be ok for him not to come to Washington, but ok for him to go to the 49ers? Is that the sentiment? Well how stupid are you then for this ignorant logic?

Sounds like a disgruntled fan who definitely won’t be going to the Super Bowl or a division title game. Call Dan Snyder and see if he will give you a pacifier.

You’re just a big cry baby with no team spirit or hope. Talk to the owner of your home team and see if they will listen to your advice about his team and see how far that goes.

As for Dan Snyder, buckle up and get ready for this butt whipping if this deal goes through. Get all of your dreams in now because you’ll be having RGIII, DJAX, PIERRE, ROBERTS, REID & MORRIS nightmares soon and they will last for a very long time!

I read this headline as the Raiders and 49ers decided not to call the LAPD about Redskins. I’m sure the Redskins are relieved.

  27. distracted9 says: Apr 1, 2014 4:56 PM

After watching DeSean for 6 seasons I’ve learned that if a corner puts a jam on him it takes him out of the play.. He is very fast but has no fight in him.

  28. cleminem757 says: Apr 1, 2014 4:57 PM

Jackson and his agent are waiting to see if Oakland is going to come off of some of that cash they are hoarding. That is all. Skins are getting played. HTTR!!!

Who cares. Skins are the bottom of the barrel in the NFC east again.

Los Angeles (twice), St. Louis (twice), Minneapolis, Cleveland (twice) New Orleans, Oakland, Boston, Baltimore, Milwaukee, Philadelphia (twice), Baltimore, Brooklyn, Washington D.C., Kansas City (twice), Detroit, Syracuse, San Diego, Dallas, San Diego, Chicago, and Houston.

Just a list of a few cities that have lost a major pro sport team. I know you’re here to antagonize the Seattle sports fan, but you need to get over your teenage attributes and move on. You’re moving into the territory of logicalvoice and pftpoet.

While I’ve never been a big soccer fan, it has been a very popular sport in the Seattle metro area for decades. But, soccer will always move a few more seats to the back of the bus when it comes to football.

The loss of the Sonic’s sucked. I’ll give you that. People are/were very passionate about the Sonic’s but, as with all those cities listed above, the fans are the last thing on the menu, when decisions are made to stay or go.

The Sonic’s are in OKC. You better hope you don’t feel the sting of losing a team that you truly have no control over keeping, regardless of the rhetoric owners say, because it could happen.

But hate on, and continue to be a pest. It’s probably what you’re best at.

You’re wasting your breath by mKing too much sense to these guys who only watch Desean play on Sportscenter. They fail to understand that those of us who’ve watched him for 6 years know that he struggles against press coverage. The bulk of his numbers last year came in 4 games vs terrible secondaries. Check his game log from last year, you’ll see.

    ……………………………………….

    Let’s get our facts straight…
    1. Seattle has never been more passionate about any one of our pro sports team over another. WE LOVE THEM ALL!

    2. Seattle losing the Supersonics had nothing to do with lack of passion but had everything to do with a naieve owner (Shultz) and a shady businessman (Bennett) agreeing to bad deal.

    3. The Seahawks, The Supersonics and The Metropolitans have done what the okc thunder will never do… WIN A WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP!

Oh, by he way, this is a NFL FOOTBALL site not NBA and this article has nothing to do with Seattle or The Seahawks (look at the tags at the end of the story).

    GO SEAHAWKS!

  34. higheriqthanyou says: Apr 1, 2014 6:12 PM

    Some day you’ll win a Superbowl…

    Oh, never mind.

  36. badmoonrison says: Apr 1, 2014 6:41 PM

I dont know whats worse-Steeler fans incessantly bragging about their 6 trophies with no regard for class or Seahawk fans incessantly bragging about winning their first ever trophy like they’ve won 10 in a row. Just like a 5 year old and a new toy. Both of these fanbases seem to brag on every article’s comments section since apparently their franchise hasnt made any news in FA.

Why not just pay the cheap (for a multi-multi-million dollar team) subscription fee for any of the many online public record search services?

Anyone they want to hire should be run through one. You’ll know about every arrest, traffic ticket, outstanding debt, and all sorts of things.

If that doesn’t eliminate them, do a websearch using one of the search engines that collects results from multiple search engines.

If they are still in contention – check social media.

If they pass that test, then bring him in for an interview.

Why would a police department give you the time of day? They have more important things to do than your job of vetting potential employees. Besides, releasing the info to unauthorized persons can get them fired and sued and in some instances prosecuted. Why would you think anyone would risk that for you?

  38. russellwilsonismymvp says: Apr 1, 2014 9:33 PM

  39. babygaga19 says: Apr 2, 2014 12:02 AM

Man, the Raiders have really messed this up. Calling the cops on a guy you want to sign??? Where is the love?

  40. wclark22 says: Apr 3, 2014 8:50 PM

DumbSean signing with the Redskins guarantees he will NOT win a Super Bowl as long as he is in Washington. It’s all about the Benjamin’s at this point.
