Texans to bring Clowney, the quarterbacks in for visits

Every team gets to bring 30 draft prospects in for private visits, and we know at least four of the Texans’ targets.

According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, the Texans will bring in quarterbacks Johnny Manziel, Teddy Bridgewater and Blake Bortles, along with South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney to Reliant Stadium.

Of course, the most interesting part of McClain’s tweet might have been the addition of “among others,” to those four.

The Texans need a quarterback more than any single position in the draft, and those three are the consensus top prospects there. Clowney, meanwhile, could be the best overall player available, even if not at a position of need.

But that didn’t stop coach Bill O’Brien from making his way to South Carolina today, to see Clowney in person.

Expanding the list of possibilities for the top pick — and publicizing that list — would help them if they wanted to trade out of the top spot. And making sure to include Clowney and not just the quarterbacks will force anyone else who’s in love with him to put in a call.
