The Lions have signed an offensive lineman who’s gained some NFL experience in the last two years.

The club has added former Jets, Cowboys and Browns lineman J.B. Shugarts, according to the NFL’s Thursday transactions.

The 24-year-old Shugarts signed with the Browns as an undrafted free agent in May 2012 and had a brief stint on the club’s practice squad during the 2012 regular season. He spent part of the 2013 offseason with the Cowboys but was waived in July. Shugarts spent the 2013 preseason with the Jets before being waived in the cut down to 53 players.

Shugarts (6-6, 305) has appeared in a combined eight preseason games in the last two seasons. He played collegiately at Ohio State, starting three seasons at right tackle.

Great athlete (TE in high school) but he never got drafted due to a lack of strength. Maybe he has been working on that for a while. His father started 1 game for the Steelers.

He’s nice insurance because they just lost Jason Fox. Now they can head into the draft without needing one. If one is there (T), then they’ll take one in the mid to late rounds.

He’d be a better as a guard than tackle.

The good news: it’s mathematically impossible for him to be injured more often than Jason Fox.

Good luck with all that Detroit. As a Buckeye fan, I unfortunately had to hear “false start, offense, number 76″ more times than I care to remember. More often than not, it was on 3rd & short.

I don’t know if you can say we “lost” jason fox, what happened he stubbed his toe and his leg shattered? More like dumped a bust.

    Plus, Washburn. Coaching matters.
