Former Cowboys and Ravens defensive lineman Marcus Spears is calling it a career after nine seasons in the NFL.

Spears, who was an All-American and won a national championship at LSU, told NOLA.com that he is retiring to become an analyst at SEC Network.

Realistically, Spears may not have had much of a choice but to retire from the NFL: After signing a two-year, $3.55 million contract with the Ravens last year, he was released just five games into the season and didn’t catch on anywhere else.

A 2005 first-round pick of the Cowboys, Spears played in Dallas for eight seasons before signing with the Ravens.
