When we last checked in on Colts tight end Dwayne Allen, he said he was 100 percent healed from last year’s hip injury. Now Allen says he’s even better than that.

“I feel like I’m almost to 110 percent,” Allen told the Colts’ website. “It’s not just my job to work to train my body where it was. I sat out a year, everyone else is improving. I don’t know what percent they’re improving, but I guess it’s 10 percent. They’re getting 10 percent better than they were the year before. It’s my job to work back to where I was before last season, then gain that extra percent so I can stay up with the NFL.”

Mathematically, I’m not sure I follow Allen’s percentages. But he sounds confident that he’s going to be not just as good in 2014 as he was in 2012, but better.

If that’s the case, it’s very good news for the Colts: Allen had an excellent rookie year after the Colts took him in the third round of the 2012 NFL draft, starting all 16 games and catching 45 passes for 521 yards. In 2013, he suffered a season-ending hip injury in Week One. Getting Allen’s production back in 2014 would be a major bonus to the Colts’ offense.
