Not every team that needs a quarterback is going to be able to take one in the first round, or may not want to.

So LSU’s Zach Mettenberger is shaping up as someone who could appeal to those shopping in the high reaches of the second round.

According to Albert Breer of the NFL Network, Mettenberger will fly to Jacksonville Thursday to meet with the Jaguars the day after his pro day workout.

He also has private meetings set up in Baton Rouge with the Raiders, Vikings, Lions and Titans. Teams can go to campus and work him out, while in-house visits are just for interviews.

Proving himself well is the first step, after his November ACL tear. He’s scheduled to go through all the drills at pro day Wednesday, and the amount of interest shown by those teams picking at the top of the draft order might be a good sign for him.

While it’s unlikely he’d go between third and 11th overall, the possibility of going between 36th and 45th is intriguing.
