Texans schedule visits with Bortles, Manziel

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle has posted two mock drafts this offseason and he has the Texans taking a quarterback in each of them.

The first time around, McClain projected the Texans would take Blake Bortles of Central Florida. He switched things up the second time and now has the Texans staying in state and taking 2012 Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel of Texas A&M.

Mock drafts must always be taken with a grain of salt, even from a reporter who has covered the Texans as closely as McClain has throughout their entire existence, but it would appear that both quarterbacks are under consideration for the team in the first round. McClain reports that the Texans have scheduled visits with each of the quarterbacks later this month.

Bortles is slated to visit Houston on April 15 and 16 while Manziel is expected to meet with the team on April 21 and 22. We’re not likely to glean much information about which of those players the team prefers or if they’ll be taking a quarterback at all as it is to their advantage to keep as many options open as possible before they actually commit to what they’re doing with the first overall pick.

McClain is a hack! Let’s not forget he loved the Vince Young’s package and guaranteed the Texans were taking him with the last first overall they had. Manzeil is the next Tebow and will be out of the NFL before his rookie contract expires.

Correct me if I’m wrong. There has never been an underclassman QB selected in the NFL draft who had a successful career. If I was a GM or the person selecting players in the draft I’ll go after a Senior.

Not a fan nor do I hate the texans but if they let Manziel pass them as a star figure from their home state and he amounts to anything as. Pro even just a marketing tool they will forever regret that decision .

This is an ideal opportunity to attempt to try and catch Dallas and capture Texas if for nothing more than a few good years . Since the nfl is a business first I believe they might pressure the coach a bit . Only time will tell what the result of that may be.

Aaron Rodgers comes to mind right off the bat as an underclass man who has a great career

@football13 – First! Aaron Rodgers, Alex Smith, Ben Roethlisberger, Matt Stafford, Drew Bledsoe, Michael Vick……yada yada…..

Fan support in Houston is overwhelmingly for Johnny. Bortles will have trouble getting a cab at the airport.

The only fan support in Houston for manzeil are from his fellow aggys. They all are thinking he is the next Russell Wilson but by his ego and party lifestyle he will probably be photo’d doing beer bongs with underage girls in a hot tub at a house party.

If a bazillion UT faithful couldn’t pressure the Texans into taking Vince Young I wouldn’t count on the Aggies getting Manziel drafted. And Vince actually won a championship.

No matter where he is drafted he will not be able to stay out of trouble long enough to succeed in the NFL. Sad but true.

And yes, McClain is a hot air hack. Yes, he may have some inside as to what the texans are doing…when they tell him. But in this he has no idea, and I’ve learned that when McClain is making texans predictions, go with the opposite because he’s usually wrong. Therefore the texans will trade or take Clowney.

I honestly believe the best spot for Mr Football is Houston…and he would be good for Houston. The Texans need to gain some footing in Texas…”fan wise”…and he is just the guy to help them.

First off… the VY’s package comment was Rich Lord from SportsRadio610AM.

Second… McClain said all along in 2006 that the Texas would take Reggie Bush not VY.

Third… The Manziel/Tebow comparisons are so tired and uneducated…

The Texans aren’t taking Manziel so you can relax…. My guess is Clowney in the 1st and Mettenburger/Murray/Garrapolo in the 2nd.
