The Bears have been awarded wide receiver Josh Bellamy on waivers from Washington, the NFL disclosed in its Tuesday transactions.

The Redskins waived the 24-year-old Bellamy on Monday. He played in five games for Washington in 2013, recording two special teams tackles. The Redskins signed him from their practice squad to the roster on November 26.

The 6-foot, 206-pound Bellamy first entered the NFL with the Chiefs, signing as an undrafted free agent on April 30, 2012. As a rookie, he appeared in three games for Kansas City, making two tackles and returning five kickoffs for 101 yards.

The Bears now have eight receivers on the roster, with Bellamy, Domenik Hixon, Terrence Toliver, Eric Weems, Chris Williams and Marquess Wilson the reserve options behind Alshon Jeffery and Brandon Marshall.

“He played in five games…recording two special teams tackles.”
“He appeared in three games for the Chiefs in 2012, making two tackles…He also made two tackles.”

    I’m noticing a trend here.

Cool special team tackling experience. He can help top those pick 6′s

Bellamy, Weems, and Toliver will be gone by Opening Day, and Hixon will be mainly a ST guy.

Well if I could play against the pathetic packers defense I would sign too!

I’m a Chiefs season ticket holder and even I don’t remember him. Congratulations Chicago. Go Bears!

Somehow I don’t think the Bears are going to lose sleep on this WR loss to FA.

All these recent signings point to release pf Weems. Don’t sleep on Chris Williams. Can be a slot threat with tremendous short area speed and quickness not to mention kick/punt returner. Absolutely tore up the WAC when he played for New Mexico State in college.

Phil Emery is on a mission. The Bears roster right now is the best collection of top to bottom talent that team has had since the mid 80s, and that’s not even counting the guys they’re gonna pick up in the draft.

Doesn’t hurt to bring guys into camp. Bears need a return specialist and you never know who might be the one.

But what the Bears really need is pass protection.

Defense and special teams sucked last year. I like how Emery is retooling both.

    Weems has already been released.
