The Texans signed running back Andre Brown recently, but their incumbent starter doesn’t sound like he’s ready to take on a smaller workload.
Texans running back Arian Foster said last month that he has been medically cleared after the microscopic lumbar discectomy surgery on his back that ended his 2013 season, a fairly quick recovery that may be explained by Foster’s feeling that it wasn’t all that serious in the first place.
“I can tell you the surgery wasn’t as major as it sounded,” Foster said, via Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report. “That’s why I rebounded so quickly. I also worked my ass off. I’m expecting to do bigger things and bounce back.”
Foster wasn’t willing to talk personal expectations for his return to the lineup -- "[People] can expect whatever they want ... We expect to win” -- but the extended time off last season might not be a terrible thing if his back has fully recovered. Foster was used heavily from 2010-2012 and the time off could leave him fresher upon his return to the field.
That’s hardly a sure thing, especially when you’re dealing with a back injury, but getting the vintage Foster back would be a major boost to fulfilling those expectations.
