Champ Bailey will only play corner for the Saints

When Champ Bailey was looking for a new team after the Broncos released him, he said he’d be willing to play safety if a team wanted him to transition away from cornerback at this point in his career.

Bailey has found a home in New Orleans, but he won’t have to learn how to play a different position. General Manager Mickey Loomis said Wednesday that the Saints intend to use Bailey at cornerback only.

“You always have a need for good players and that’s a valuable position,” Loomis said, via Larry Holder of the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

If the Saints were a little less deep at corner, there might be more of a concern. Signing Jairus Byrd and matching Atlanta’s offer sheet for Rafael Bush give them two safeties to go with Kenny Vaccaro, though, and, as Holder pointed out earlier this week, it seems quite likely that we’ll see three-safety looks as a result of their strength at that position.

Does anyone know if the world champs are playing/dominating the Saints this year? I can see DangeRuss going off on this defense. In all seriousness, Saints should be good, just not hawks/dynasty-tier good.

Pretty sure I can beat Champ on a go route these days

He’s going to have a tough time beating out Pat Robinson and Corey White for the #2 job. I see him more as a nickel/dime guy, which in the Saints style of defense is still extremely important because the linebackers don’t cover.

The Saints will only win games for this year

Great career dude, but don’t be surprised if you get cut come August or early Sept.

It’s Rob Ryan’s new 4 CB, no safeties defense.

Eric Allen, Rod Woodson, and Charles Woodson are all HOF caliber corners that transitioned to safety late in their careers and extended their careers for years by moving to a position that could support them when they lost a step.

Don’t worry, Brees and Graham will light up every team’s defense. And Ryan (the one who lives off his brother’s name that actually does know defense) as D.C. Sounds like a dream.
