Ed Dickson’s visiting the Panthers, according to Ed Dickson

The Panthers continue to sift through the pile for younger, cheaper alternatives at fringe positions.

The latest is Ravens tight end Ed Dickson, who is visiting the Panthers today, according to Ed Dickson on his Twitter account.

The former third-round pick from Oregon had 54 catches in 2011, but has under-delivered on his promise since then. He caught just 25 passes last year, and that was with Dennis Pitta’s absence.

The Panthers need some depth there behind Greg Olsen and Richie Brockel, and Dickson would be a cheaper alternative to Ben Hartsock, an unrestricted free agent.

Hopefully he’ll catch on, but I’ve been watching him since he was a rookie, so I know he’ll probably drop the opportunity.

Hands of stone, and not even a good blocker to make up for it.

I don’t know what happened to him. He seemed to be doing well earlier in his career, but then he started to have trouble catching balls.

sometimes a change of scenery and different scheme/coaching is all a player needs to reach his potential. He would make a good back up for Greg Olsen, (who is the Panthers only pass catching tight end and best receiver right now)

The panthers better steer away from this butter finger who had one decent season!

Hey panthers, nothing to see here, move along and find another or draft a UNC tight end

I bet he could it if he didn’t have to be on a ladder to catch one from JumpBallJoe.

Ed needs new scenery to get his game going. Hopefully for him and if the Panthers, he can be of value. He was hard to watch at times, a lot of times but he’s a good kid and hard worker. Good luck Ed.
