Jets re-sign Garrett McIntyre

The Jets didn’t tender linebacker Garrett McIntyre as a restricted free agent, but they’ll still have him on the roster heading into the 2014 season.

The team announced Wednesday that they have re-signed McIntyre. No terms of the deal were disclosed.

McIntyre had 19 tackles and two sacks for the Jets last season as a defensive reserve and special teamer. He had 3.5 sacks in a similar role during the 2012 season and figures to remain in that role again for the Jets this season.

McIntyre joins Calvin Pace as free agent outside linebackers brought back by the team this offseason. They’ll team with Quinton Coples, although there may be another name or two thrown into the mix via the draft as the Jets try to boost their pass rushing prowess off the edge. With a strong line anchored by Muhammad Wilkerson, Damon Harrison and Sheldon Richardson, finding such a boost to the pass rush would be a boon for Rex Ryan’s defense in 2014.
