Panthers sign Thomas DeCoud

Thomas DeCoud is switching addresses in the NFC South.

DeCoud, a starting safety with Atlanta for the last five seasons, has signed a two-year deal with Carolina, his new club announced Thursday night.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, DeCoud will receive a $500,000 signing bonus, and the total value of the deal can reach $3.75 million.

The 29-year-old DeCoud has notched 375 tackles and intercepted 14 passes since entering the NFL in 2008. He had played his entire career with the Falcons, who released him in March. He was voted to the Pro Bowl in 2012, a season in which he intercepted a career-high six passes.

DeCoud joins Charles Godfrey, Roman Harper and Robert Lester in the Panthers’ safety corps.

Great move. Now I hope they can solve the O-Line vacancies.

The Panthers love washed up NFC South Safeties that are terrible at their respective positions.

    Roman Harper, Thomas Decoud, etc.

The Minnesota Vikings have a league high 18 division titles and the best team in the NFL excluding quarterback.

What does your lowly team have?

29 years old? I guess Ted Thompson figured he’s too old to help the Packers. Oh wait….

He should perform better than in 2013 with a Falcons team with no pass rush.

Somewhere right now, Roddy and Julio are giving each other a high-five saying “our YAC against Carolina are gonna be ridiculous!”

Thomas Decoud and Roman Harper in the same secondary…..yikes. Panthers better hope the NFL outlaws the forward pass or something this season.

“DeCoud joins Charles Godfrey, Roman Harper and Robert Lester in the Panthers’ safety corps.”

Of the group, Lester is the most promising and should be given the opportunity to develop. Taking a safety from a losing Falcons team and one from a team that we swept last year, can’t be viewed as a step forward.

DeCoud nor Harper move the needle for a team challenging for NFC supremacy.

Unacceptable if Panthers don’t draft WR and OL with their first 4 picks of the draft.

Hahaha Harper and DeCoud, Drew Brees is going to light this secondary up!!!

  24. tgcpanthersfan says: Apr 11, 2014 9:58 PM

Hard to judge a player from the NFC Souths lol defenses. Solid depth IMO.

  25. darrellpotts2014 says: Apr 14, 2014 3:37 PM

The Panther’s secondary has more experience now. In addition, they have gained familiarity with the Saints and Falcons’ schemes. They can provide intel on divisional opponents. They may be older, but they can buy is some time to develop Lester and draft a new safe while Godfrey returns to form.

Dude caught about as many passes as LaFell…
