Report: Colin Kaepernick investigated for alleged sexual assault

Colin Kaepernick AP

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has not been charged, but is reportedly being investigated in connection with an incident in a Miami hotel last week.

TMZ reports that police are investigating an alleged incident at the Viceroy Hotel in Miami this month. Although TMZ reported the investigation as centering on a sexual assault, the incident report made no specific allegations.

The investigation is described as in the “beginning stages.” No details were provided about the nature of the allegations against Kaepernick.

TMZ reached out to Kaepernick’s agent and the 49ers and neither had any comment.

UPDATE 12:43 p.m. ET: The 49ers released the following statement from General Manager Trent Baalke: “The 49ers organization is aware of the recent media report regarding Colin Kaepernick and is in the process of gathering the pertinent facts.”

Say goodbye to whatever leverage you might’ve had in your contract negotiations…

  6. klattubarada says: Apr 10, 2014 12:34 PM

But seriously… what is it with these dudes putting themselves in that position in the first place.

Sceptical. Pro-Athletes are an easy target. Klattu (posted above) is right, though. These guys put themselvs in bad situations.

  15. dickjagger says: Apr 10, 2014 12:40 PM

Damn… Could be nothing; or could be another example of “sir-inks-allot” not keeping his big mouth shut? Either way, not good for a guy seeking big money.

  22. savojah says: Apr 10, 2014 12:51 PM

Watch Niner fans try to dismiss this. Nobody knows the facts, but at the least, he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. You don’t want your franchise QB in situations like this.

He makes them charges go away…

  26. nomoreseasontix says: Apr 10, 2014 12:55 PM

Hmm… Let’s pump the brakes on that new contract. And maybe think about trading up in the draft to grab a QB.

  27. coffeypc says: Apr 10, 2014 12:56 PM

Don’t kill the guy off yet. Let’s get the facts for a change. Don’t really like the 9ers, but hope it is not true. Dude has a lot of promise and is fun to watch.

  28. andreboy1 says: Apr 10, 2014 12:57 PM

We’ve all seen how this almost always plays out.

Some chick hooks up with famous athlete.

Gets ashamed the next morning and call the cops.

    Winston, Crabtree, etc..

But feel free to crucify the guy for having sex.

  29. alrocket says: Apr 10, 2014 12:59 PM

  30. dukeearl says: Apr 10, 2014 12:59 PM

I am guessing there is nothing to these charges.
I agree with another poster though.
Why do they put themselves in this type of a position?

  31. bobzilla1001 says: Apr 10, 2014 1:00 PM

Here’s some free advice for Kaepernick:
    1.) Call Roethlisberger’s attorney.
2.) Secure a mentor/mouthpiece from ESPN. Merrile Hoge is already taken.
3.) Proclaim you are reborn for a third time.
4.) Find a woman willing to marry you. ASAP.
    5.) Have children.
    Problem solved.

  35. Steeley McBeam says: Apr 10, 2014 1:02 PM

  51. elsantos420 says: Apr 10, 2014 1:12 PM

Until charges are filed I’m going to assume there is nothing to this. We’ve seen how these things have played out before and money is too often the real reason for these types of allegations. How ever, if he is eventually charged, it would imply there was at least enough evidence to proceed to trial, in which case I might change my mind.

  52. kingpel says: Apr 10, 2014 1:12 PM

I’m a Ram fan but no way I am piling on here. Lots of people seem to have it out for this kid. Let’s see how it plays out.

  53. trollhammer20 says: Apr 10, 2014 1:13 PM

Not a Niner fan, but this is just a report, nothing more.

The reason so many people dislike Ben is because he found himself under similar suspicions not once, but twice.

As an old prof of mine used to say: “One time is an Event. Twice, it’s a Trend.”

Will see how this shakes down before jumping off the roof to the first conclusion I can find.

  54. hmpennypacker says: Apr 10, 2014 1:15 PM

Lets see how this plays out before finding him guilty. However I seem to recall, early in Harbaugh’s first year, a player saying that “coach harbaugh says everything is forgivable. Accept mistreating women. You put hands on a woman there is no forgiveness”. We may get to find out how true that statement was.

  55. dstep24 says: Apr 10, 2014 1:15 PM

    – Colin Kaepernick

    1. Replace him with an actual QB.

    2. Retain him for cheaper than they would have otherwise.

  90. number1hawkfan says: Apr 10, 2014 1:52 PM

As a Seahawks fans that can’t stand Kaperchoke I still won’t pass judgement until all the facts are out. I will judge Jim Harbaugh though. What an arrogant tool he’s turned out to be. Throwing stones at the Seahawks and saying his team is “beyond reproach” . You have to have the arrogance of Harbaugh to not realize he has 53 young dudes with money and eventually it’s going to happen to his sorry roster. Now you have Culliver hitting a cyclist and fleeing the scene and although I won’t judge Kaperchoke. Being investigated for sexual assault isn’t beyond reproach.

  91. dbfan4ever says: Apr 10, 2014 1:52 PM

I really am the furthest from a Kaepernick supporter but I think these he said/she said things more often than not turn out to be a shakedown for money.

  98. ninerblitz says: Apr 10, 2014 2:02 PM

I’m a just as concerned about the quality of the company Kap keeps. He needs to channel his inner, “Steve Young”. Stay away from crap that can blow up in your face and cover you in poop. Here is a guy that is supposed to be a franchise QB, and he is hanging out with busters and bongs. I hate to say it but Kap isn’t the answer. We need leaders and role models. Now he is behaving like he looks. I guess if it looks like a duck…..

Still, if he has any direct association with the verifiable abuse of a woman, he needs to be out of the NFL and getting a taste of own medicine in prison. It’s a disgrace to the league that Perrish Cox and Demariyus Thomas are still employed.

I’m a Russell Wilson fan, not a Kaepernick fan. That being said, I think the media is blowing this out of proportion. The girl said they didn’t have sex, so how can this be a sexual assault?

  124. doggeatdogg says: Apr 10, 2014 6:27 PM

Wait for DNA and the hospital results. This woman is saying:

-she has been sexually involved with him before
-she did not like his buddies taking a peak at her
    -she mixed her own drink
-was encouraged to smoke pot and did
-blacked out and ended in the hospital no memory

She sounds credible being that she seems to be going out of her way to detail a scenario that would exonerated the men. It comes to consent and hospital report detailing trauma and DNA. If a woman is out of it, it’s not a ticket to sex.
