Report: DeSean Jackson skipped 2013 exit session with Chip Kelly

Maybe the Eagles didn’t leak negative information about former Philly receiver DeSean Jackson in the past.  There’s a decent chance that some more recent leaking is happening.

Joseph Santoliquito of CBS Philly reports that Jackson didn’t show up for the traditional year-end exit interview with coach Chip Kelly at the end of the 2013 season.  Considering that Jackson told reporters that same day he believes he has earned a contract that would pay him more than $10.5 million in 2014, it’s easy to understand why Kelly would be a little miffed about the developments.

Last week, Santoliquito sprayed a shotgun regarding Jackson’s behavior in Philadelphia, but none of the pellets were nearly as intriguing as the idea that Jackson snubbed Kelly within the same immediate time frame of making a pitch for more money.

That one-two punch alone would be enough to break the proverbial camel’s back, with the Eagles deciding at that point to move on at the right time — such as, for example, after re-signing Riley Cooper and Jeremy Maclin, and after acquiring Darren Sproles in trade and inking him to an extension.

Guy just doesn’t know how to be a professional.

  2. thesmartest1 says: Apr 10, 2014 1:15 PM

    Diva punk. Pure and simple.

  3. jswheeler says: Apr 10, 2014 1:17 PM

Jackson also complained that he never got an explanation from Kelly why he was let go. Maybe if he had gone to his exit interview he would have heard a few reasons.

Yeah you can understand being miffed, but sometimes being a good coach is to not take things personal and try to find a way to coax the best out of a bad situation, even if you feel disrespected in the process. If you can get past the tough stuff, then there’s more energy to focus on winning the most amount of football games possible, and that should be the drive.

Desean Jackson will always be a “me-first” player for the rest of his career.

This will be a great move for the Eagles in the long run by not wasting a large amount of their salary cap on a player who puts himself and his tainted “rap career” before the professional team that gave him a chance and large amount of money.

  6. harrisonhits2 says: Apr 10, 2014 1:22 PM

Some of these players have the maturity of a small child.

That what happens when everyone around them enables self centered and bad behavior simply because they are good at sports.

  7. corduroy88 says: Apr 10, 2014 1:22 PM

He may not know how to be a professional, but he sure knows how to be a pompous jackass.

  8. elsantos420 says: Apr 10, 2014 1:23 PM

I’m glad the Eagles are no longer going to put up with that kind of behavior. We need players who are tough, not ones that just act like they are.

  9. overratedsteelerhater says: Apr 10, 2014 1:24 PM

this guy is heavy baggage, good luck!!!!

But he did wave goodbye to chip in the parking lot using 3 fingers. Ya know, 3 which means the third letter of the alphabet C

The strict locker room in Washington will set him straight…. Once he shows up.

All this drama is slowly causing me to favor desean jackson.

The eagles need to shut up and get their house in order.

  14. leftlaneisforpassingonly says: Apr 10, 2014 1:32 PM

Given how Jackson acted the last time he wanted a new contract I think the Eagles had enough history to know what was coming if they kept Jackson around. It was a tough call by the Eagles, but Jackson already got more chances at being a good employee than the rest of us will ever get.

  15. tjacks7 says: Apr 10, 2014 1:32 PM

I had my mid-year review a couple days ago. I imagine I would have been fired had I just decided not to show up. Some of these guys don’t realize how lucky they are.. Guys like this would never make it in the real world.

  16. ragnarthemagnificent says: Apr 10, 2014 1:33 PM

A lot of guys are clamoring to play for Chip Kelly. I watched those Oregon teams, and they should be. I would be very concerned about Mr Jackson. Sounds like T.O. 2.0. If I skipped my performance review with my boss and told everyone I wanted more money I’m pretty sure that wouldn’t go over to well.

  17. smokingconch says: Apr 10, 2014 1:33 PM

If Chip Kelly would’ve just gone by Chip Celly, this all could’ve been avoided.

  18. icanhazblogs says: Apr 10, 2014 1:34 PM

Must have needed to get back to Cali to work on his (c)rap career…..

    You were the chosen one!

Oye vay!! As a Redskins fan this smells like something familiar…smh!!

  21. raiderlyfe510 says: Apr 10, 2014 1:40 PM

Desean Jackson is the typical Redskins Free Agent pickup. They act like they have the locker room to fix malcontents.

  22. Silver and Black attack says: Apr 10, 2014 1:41 PM

Djax is really good at “skipping” things. I think he just recently skipped the Redskins first mini camp.

  23. greymares says: Apr 10, 2014 1:42 PM

    Desean who ?

  24. peymax1693 says: Apr 10, 2014 1:52 PM

It’s Chip Kelly’s fault the DeSean skipped the meeting because . . . well, it’s never DeSean’s fault, is it?

  25. peymax1693 says: Apr 10, 2014 1:52 PM

It’s Chip Kelly’s fault that DeSean skipped the meeting because . . . well, it’s never DeSean’s fault, is it?

  26. ivanpavlov0000 says: Apr 10, 2014 1:56 PM

Obviously there were issues between those two guys that we’ll never know about. But this does make it clear that DeSean knew he was going to be a former Eagle.

  27. fdugrad says: Apr 10, 2014 1:56 PM

I suppose no one should be wondering why he is gone OR why no one stood up for him.

  28. kjmcfadden says: Apr 10, 2014 2:02 PM

given the Eagles championship history, I’m sure they can do without their best players…Oh wait :/

  29. mattieo8 says: Apr 10, 2014 2:08 PM

Funny how people were up in arms when the eagles wouldn’t give an explanation on why DeSean was released.
Now the reasons are coming out and the Eagles are “Slandering” his name.

The more I hear about this guy, the more I’m happy he signed in Washington.

Who has the bigger ego, Jackson or RGme? Time will tell.

  33. mcsuave says: Apr 10, 2014 2:38 PM

You know he is bad when you can not find one positive post on him. (Thought of one). ESPN MAKE A WISH STORY approx 2 years ago. Outside of that, nothing but negatives.

  34. dlove4392 says: Apr 10, 2014 2:40 PM

Mesean and RGme will be perfect together well cuz well take a guess..

  35. filthymcnasty1 says: Apr 10, 2014 2:40 PM

Good thing the Redskins jumped on this guy before anyone else got to him.

  36. crubenst says: Apr 10, 2014 2:41 PM

  37. ninjapleazee says: Apr 10, 2014 2:42 PM

  38. painsyndicate says: Apr 10, 2014 2:48 PM

MeSean, MeAngelo and RGMEMEME all on the same team jocking each other over social media?

    Mushroom cloud imminent.

  40. redskinspolo says: Apr 10, 2014 3:40 PM

Eagles Fans are very mad right now and understandably so. Got to see the man twice every year, only mad because he signed with the REDSKINS… haters

  41. birdgang321 says: Apr 10, 2014 3:41 PM

This is not surprising in the least. The guy is a punk and a diva and he’s already skipping workouts in Washington. Regardless if he got approval or not for his vacation he’s got way too much to prove to be missing time. I hope he implodes that redskins locker room which is almost inevitable given how many divas that team already has.

  42. Raider-in-PA says: Apr 10, 2014 4:21 PM

Say what you will about Reggie McKenzie, but at least he had enough smarts to stay far away from this disease that is DeSean… Thank goodness!!

  43. kingwshngtn2 says: Apr 10, 2014 4:56 PM

It sure doesn’t take much courage for all you cowards to take your pot shots at Jackson. Ya’ll can cackle like a bunch of gooses now until he burns your Eagle asses this fall!

    1. Calvin Johnson

  45. courtjester1234 says: Apr 10, 2014 6:19 PM

I never played pro ball but have been in a few leagues where there is that guy with great talent. But they talk stuff about their own teammates. And causes trouble on the field with the opposing team and then expects you to “back me up”. It’s tough to throw them off the team especially when it’s your friend. But there is no I in team. For his sakes alone I hope he changes. But I doubt he will

  46. harrypairotestes says: Apr 10, 2014 6:26 PM

We’ve heard this before and it doesn’t usually end up well. Good signing by the skins!

  47. s0merand0mguy says: Apr 10, 2014 6:32 PM

RGMe’s arm is too weak. It will be hilarious to watch Jackson get under thrown all season.

  48. skins1970 says: Apr 10, 2014 7:00 PM

DJax told the Skins when he visited that he had a vacation planned and would be back next week, it’s not like he went AWOL! He’s only missing weight lifting.

  49. inallsincerity says: Apr 10, 2014 7:56 PM

Selfish, me-first, not a team player, etc… Meanwhile, the NFL aka Not For Long league, where you have to get all your money up front because the contracts aren’t guaranteed, the possibility of an 18-game season, expanding Thursday night coverage to where teams have to play twice in five days, less than forthright about their knowledge of concussion studies, the audacity to ask MLB to move their games to accommodate the NFL schedule, luxury suites and annual increasing prices, etc…
DeSean is only a product of his environment.

  50. tiger2471 says: Apr 10, 2014 8:53 PM

I can’t wait to see the posts on here when Chip Kelly turns out to be a dud, and then Eagles fans will be throwing HIM under the bus. You see it’s all about what have you done for me lately in Philly, period. They have never won shyte and probably never will.

  51. ocgunslinger says: Apr 11, 2014 11:28 AM

Smart move by the Eagles getting rid of a malcontent and his salary and using that savings to improve the overall depth and talent level. Redskins jumped on him because of his potential. Potential has to be realized and it usually takes maturity.

  52. politicallyincorrect says: Apr 11, 2014 2:52 PM

Good for DJax… put that Eagles stench in the rear view mirror… and no point in dignifying little Chip

Eagles are classless.. only team in NFC East to have never won a thing…. had long time HC who was so out of touch his family suffered.. now they lie about a player to mask the simple truth that they simply made decision not to pay him dollars he wanted from them because they did not want to allocate overall money in that way… coward org!
