Panthers sign CFL pass rusher Alex Hall

Alex Hall AP

The Panthers have added a top CFL pass rusher with some NFL experience.

Alex Hall, who notched 15 sacks in 2013 for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, has signed with the Panthers, his new club said Friday.

Hall, 28, played two seasons with the Browns (2008-2009). He had stints with the Eagles, Cardinals and Giants in 2010. Overall, he’s notched 39 tackles and three sacks in regular season NFL play.

Hall (6-6, 256) played collegiately at Saint Augustine’s University in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was a seventh-round pick of the Browns in 2008.

Hall was traded from Winnipeg to Saskatchewan in October 2013, and he played on Saskatchewan’s Grey Cup-winning club. He figures to be a defensive end in Carolina’s 4-3 scheme.

wow thats sounds like a good signing. I’m starting to really like what Gettleman is doing. These types of players are immediately more prepared to play than just starting rookies all over the board.

He could be a good rotational D-end behind Greg Hardy and Charles Johnson.

Can the dude catch? This team needs receivers in a big way.

Actually, the Panthers have upgraded every receiver position except the No. 1 spot.

Solid. Gettleman keeps finding ways to get the best players he find on the roster regardless of our cap situation

Hard to judge his CFL stats due to lower level of competition. Seems like he will be a solid backup to the starting DEs along with Mario Addison.

We’re pretty much 2-deep at all of the front 7 positions, which will help the average guys in the secondary look much better. Now if we can get a true #1 WR, some O-line depth, and another CB in the draft, the guarantees that we’re going to go 4-12 will look quite silly.

What does this mean for Frank Alexander?
