Panthers waive R.J. Webb

The Panthers waived wide receiver R.J. Webb on Friday, per the NFL’s daily notice of personnel moves.

The 26-year-old Webb spent 2013 on injured reserve with the Panthers. He suffered a torn ACL on June 11. The Panthers had signed him a less than a month earlier.

Webb (6-2, 205) was one of nine receivers on the Panthers’ roster. The Panthers will have a revamped receiving corps this season after releasing Steve Smith and seeing Brandon LaFell depart in free agency.

Webb played at Furman from 2005 through 2009, catching 85 passes for 1,082 yards and nine touchdowns.

“Wide receiver waived by the Panthers” isn’t the sort of thing I’d want on my resume.

You know you got it bad when you’re a wideout and the Panthers, at this particular point in time, don’t want you on their team.

Between this guy, Joe Webb and Jamarcus Webb, its best to consider that having Webb as a last name is a major red flag.

2 Furman receivers in 1 day. Don’t see that often.

He wasn’t going to make the team after the signings of Cotchery and Avant plus whoever we get in the draft. We’ve done a decent job of rebuilding the WR position so far.
