Aldon Smith reportedly detained by police at LAX

Aldon Smith AP

A police report from Miami landed 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick in the news last week and now reports from Los Angeles International Airport are ending the week with another player in the news.

A witness named John Egan told Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group that linebacker Aldon Smith was waiting for a Southwest flight when he was approached by several police officers who led him away from the gate. TMZ has a picture of the reported incident that shows police handcuffing the man identified as Smith.

“I heard him say, ‘I did nothing wrong,’” Egan said. “The whole thing ratcheted up from there. The cops were trying to calm him down. He wasn’t out of control; just agitated.”

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports that Smith “became belligerent in a security line and said something about having a bomb.”

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed an arrest was made but said they would not identify him until he was booked. We’ll follow up with more one way or another once they do.

  22. pfromvv says: Apr 13, 2014 6:50 PM

Not sounding to good for my Niners. First Chris Culliver, then Quiton Patton and Kaepernick. Now good ol’ Aldon is back in the news. These kids today need to wise up a bit. Still, Kaepernick has to be the worst, and he’s over here asking for 20 mill a year. I don’t care if he is innocent. What’s 3 famous/semi famous grown men doing with 1 girl in a hotel room. Sounds like kids in high school. He needs to smarten up and not put himself in these types of situations.

  52. derek4dolphins says: Apr 13, 2014 7:25 PM

I don’t get it… And I’m no more going to blame the 49′ers then I do Miami for Martin and Incognito’s nonsense. This sort of crap falls directly on the players. Organizations offer everything south of babysitters (Cowboys even offer those/Dez Bryant/) to these guys and they just can’t get their minds right. It seems to be a combination of who they grew up being, WAY TOO MUCH TIME AND MONEY on their hands… and all the sense of entitlement that cash and being an NFL star seems to give them. So long as the legal system allows these men to purchase their way out of trouble with slaps on the wrists or simple payoffs to victims… Nothing will change. Making a Bomb threat in an airport gets “John Q Public” a minimum of 30 days in the slam… Smith will be out tonight. Nothing changes if nothing changes….

I remember Aldon driving his car drunk to practice at 7am and slaming it into a tree with a fat sack of some Bomb chronic on the front seat.

Who was in trouble with the law for the Seattle, Lynch? He was pulled over for DWB and it was pleased to a lesser charge Aldon is setting a pattern for self destruction.

all kidding aside, this isn’t very bad thing that happened but if what is reported as true, not a smart choice on his par, the most important thing that happened was mentioned before, Aldon has a history of bad choices. My concern is that he may have a disconnect from right and wrong. He’s a good man when he wants to be but, maybe a mentor to help him. Some will say he’s a grown man, I’ll agree. At what point does someone jump in to tell him he’s making poor choices. I think we all need to stop judging this man. Especially the sea hawk fans who had incidents last year. No one is perfect, this man need to get his thought process going to where he knows for anything you do, there will be some type of reaction, whether it’s good or not, he has control, have a great day
