No formal charges yet against Aldon Smith

On Sunday, 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith was arrested for claiming that he had a bomb while in an airport security line.

On Monday, formal charges won’t be filed.  And formal charges may not be filed for quite some time.

“Since he bailed out, it may be a while before any charges are presented to our office for filing consideration,” a spokesman for the L.A. district attorney told Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area.

Smith was released on $20,000 bail.  The 49ers must decide by May 3 whether to pick up the fifth-year option on Smith’s rookie contract.

The fourth-year pro separately faces DUI charges and felony weapons charges.

Time to see if Harbaugh practices what he preaches.

I can understand being upset with the TSA, it’s annoying. And he probably said he had bomb with thick sarcasm… and it’s still stupid. I remember reading that he was drunk as well. Good thing he went to rehab last year. Jail time and cut him. Not worth the headache because I have the feeling these kind of things will keep happening.

Can’t wait to see if he is “above reproach”

Lets see if Hairbaugh steps on this one.

I would cut him, lack of intelligence of the utmost…

What! I don’t care who you are, you can’t yell bomb at an airport and you can’t yell fire in a movie theater. For the same damn good reasons. Dude should face charges, period.

They’d probably cut him if they didn’t know another team would snap him up on the cheap. Why not keep him in SF on the cheap? The devil you know is better than the devil you don’t know . . . especially when that devil produces.

overblown story like always when it come to the 49ers players of the field. that being said, dont care what the 49ers do on there own time outside of football, as long as they bring there “A” game on gameday. aldon has what …43sacks in 44 games? sign the man long term right away.

YOu people saying he should do ‘jail time’ for mentioning a bomb sarcastically to TSA – should all just shut up.

  13. seaeagle707 says: Apr 14, 2014 4:00 PM

What he really said: “As a player I used to be a bomb. Now I’m just a dud.”

So what law of the Universe did the Niners trample on? All of a sudden it seems like the team has got major off-field issues. Get your acts together guys, only a few months until our annual get-together.

    There are no 1st, 2nd or 4th amendment area/s in the airport…

because aldon will turn down a cheap offer from sf and get a monster deal in free agency when his contract is up.

Hopefully San Francisco picks up his option.

He’ll need that money the next time he is arrested while the 49ers look the other way.

He’d look good in speed blue and white. We need help with pass rush and Indianapolis is a small enough city should keep him out of trouble
