Vikings agree to terms with safety Kurt Coleman

Washington Redskins v Philadelphia Eagles Getty Images

The Eagles didn’t have much use for Kurt Coleman, but the Vikings think he can help.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Coleman has agreed to terms with the Vikings.

Coleman fell to a reserve role with the Eagles after two years as a regular, and for a team with secondary questions, that could be perceived as a bad sign.

But he’s a solid special teamer and spare safety, and after visiting with the Vikings last week, decided to hang around.

He had also visited the Colts and the Jets, as he looks to re-establish himself.

This is why every franchise envies us.

A perfect depth signing for a league minimum contract.

He has experience as a starter, so he’s already better than every other teams backup.

No one has had a better free agency than the historic Minnesota Vikings.

    Great special teamer…Good signing…

Should have come to green bay! You would have started immediately for that garbage franchise.

It’s better to have a job than to not have one at all.

Even if you’re joining a team going nowhere.

  5. filthymcnasty1 says: Apr 14, 2014 3:29 PM

That Harrison Smith injury must be worse than we thought.

  6. navigator24 says: Apr 14, 2014 3:32 PM

Pound for pound, a real tough player. Good depth chart guy.

  7. Celebrity Man Guy says: Apr 14, 2014 3:33 PM

Why did you rip this guy just because he didn’t re-sign with his old team? That’s what free agency is about, isn’t it?

  8. wayneflores says: Apr 14, 2014 3:48 PM

If he was a Reserve, amazing Reggie didn’t sign him to Raiders. But his criteria is IT Specialist.

  9. deltaoracle says: Apr 14, 2014 3:52 PM

Just in case Smith misses half the season with a stubbed toe again.

  10. fwippel says: Apr 14, 2014 4:01 PM

So this probably means the Vikings can part company with Robert Blanton.

  11. Carl Gerbschmidt says: Apr 14, 2014 4:07 PM

They might want to try signing some starters. Just a thought.

  12. cursedvikings1998 says: Apr 14, 2014 4:10 PM

coleman is okay, but that corner you got, Captain Munnerlyn is hot garbage. He was ranked 70th in the league by Bleacher Report. Horrible corner you picked up there!

  13. f1restarter says: Apr 14, 2014 4:11 PM

Another loser who doesn’t care about ever winning a championship. In other words, a perfect Viking.

  14. blmonroe12 says: Apr 14, 2014 4:11 PM

I’m surprised he didn’t sign with Indy just to make sure he doesn’t get trucked by T-Rich again.

  15. redandgoldhitman52 says: Apr 14, 2014 4:14 PM

wow. what a phenomenal move. this makes the vikings superbowl favorites.

  16. pftking says: Apr 14, 2014 4:14 PM

Not a bad signing. Give him a chance to compete with Sanford and he might just beat him out for the starting job opposite Smith.

  17. vikes89allday says: Apr 14, 2014 4:15 PM

Good vet to add to the “hopefully new look” secondary. Getting better on the back end of the defense is the smartest thing for the Vikings to do!!

  18. thepvyharvin says: Apr 14, 2014 4:32 PM

Solid signing. If his career is meant to go places,Mike Zimmer will be the guy to help him get there.

  19. eglsfan says: Apr 14, 2014 4:44 PM

maybe Trent Richardson can remove his helmet again……good riddance from Philly

  20. dethsupport says: Apr 14, 2014 4:45 PM

Cause Bleacher Report is where all the smart rubes get their information.

  21. Celebrity Man Guy says: Apr 14, 2014 4:50 PM

Lot of nervous Packer fans out there.

  22. purpleguy says: Apr 14, 2014 4:53 PM

They should be focusing upon LB and CB — we’ve already got a zillion average safeties. We’re collecting marginal safeties like Ted Thompson collects marginal LBs and 6th round draft picks.

  23. wafflestomp says: Apr 14, 2014 4:54 PM

Just wondering how the leagues worst defense is going to get any better signing scrubs like this.

    skoLOL!

  24. deflateddome says: Apr 14, 2014 5:05 PM

The Poor Packer s overpay a used ex hack with no feet left, and they criticize everyone else for their moves. Honestly, if anyone could have used Coleman it is GB.

  25. filthymcnasty1 says: Apr 14, 2014 5:24 PM

If the Vikings do indeed finish in last place again this year as they are currently headed, that will mark the 4th time in the last 5 years that Speilman gave birth to a last place team.

Rick Spielman really is a Magician.

  26. dethsupport says: Apr 14, 2014 5:32 PM

Rick Spielman who’s there. I would have preferred them to hire the architect of both the Packer and Seahawks Superbowl roster John Schneider, but alas, he’s in Seattle winning over there now. Y’all know he was GB’s only shot at a 6th Superbowl.

  27. conormacleod says: Apr 14, 2014 5:46 PM

People act like teams shouldn’t ever sign backups while still needing starters. It’s a 53 man roster idiots.

  28. lj312chicago says: Apr 14, 2014 5:50 PM

I feel bad Adrian Peterson got drafted to Minnesota….waist of a hall of fame career

  29. dethsupport says: Apr 14, 2014 5:54 PM

Don’t feel too bad for AD. He had a few fumbles in that NFC Championship game. He owned them so he’s been forgiven. Favre on the other hand…

  30. jfr11 says: Apr 14, 2014 5:57 PM

    Can’t tackle and can’t cover!

  31. stoptrippn says: Apr 14, 2014 6:07 PM

Zimmer is overrated and some of the players think he’s an idiot

  32. mortwannabe says: Apr 14, 2014 6:09 PM

Vikes just locked up 4th place in the Central AGAIN!

  33. jollyjoker2 says: Apr 14, 2014 6:11 PM

yea!, another marshmellow to add to the Vikings defense. Jared Allen – the only guy that could sack or do anything without injuring’ himself replacement. I feel like a SB coming on…Hit me quick.

  34. whatjusthapped says: Apr 14, 2014 6:28 PM

Look, if he can stay out of jail and doesn’t hit his girlfriend, its already an instant upgrade for their secondary.

Who cares if he can play, the Vikings never used that as a benchmark for signing players, why start now?

  35. skolisstupid says: Apr 14, 2014 6:39 PM

Everybody wants to be a Viking. Skol. Dumb.

  36. birdgang321 says: Apr 14, 2014 6:40 PM

Why do Vikings fans talk like there team just won the Super Bowl? You guys are aweful and let’s be serious it’s Kurt Coleman not Jairus Byrd. Glad he’s out of philly good riddance.

  37. khmer379 says: Apr 14, 2014 6:57 PM

Filtymcnasty you know ponder had a career day against your packer two years ago to make the playoffs right?

  38. jermainewiggins says: Apr 14, 2014 7:05 PM

Hey birdgang who sais we think were winning the superbowl? Dont take an opinion from any trolls either. This is nothing more than a signing to increase the competion in camp. And to the rest of you haters keep it coming you all must be really bored!

  39. sconnyslovethemsomecousins says: Apr 14, 2014 7:23 PM

    Depth signing…moving on.
If Manziel isn’t available…Vike’s will trade down and select Calvin Pryor to solidify one of the best young safety tandems in the league with Hitman Harrison.

  40. adebessi says: Apr 14, 2014 7:44 PM

As a Philly fan I’m so happy this guy is gone. He is horrible. Had one game where he had 3 ints by being in the right place at the right time, and Eagles think they can plug him in as back up safety. He’s slow, can’t cover, can’t wrap up, gets ran over. Good riddance.

  41. greymares says: Apr 14, 2014 7:57 PM

It wont be much but he’ll give you all he has. He did intercept 3 passes in 1 game against the Redskins, that tells you something.

  42. wafflestomp says: Apr 14, 2014 9:13 PM

It wont be much but he’ll give you all he has. He did intercept 3 passes in 1 game against the Redskins, that tells you something.
    ————————————————————————————-

Yeah, it tells me the Redskins are bad.

  43. filthymcnasty1 says: Apr 14, 2014 9:23 PM

Coleman will be there to witness the hapless and tasteless Vikings losing the season series to the Packers for the 5th straight season in a row.

And that’s what makes football fun.

  44. skolisstupid says: Apr 14, 2014 10:49 PM

    Pftpoet. Skol is still dumb.

  45. vikingsftw says: Apr 15, 2014 8:18 AM

I’m a Vikings fan and sure would love to see us get better but people thumbing up every scrub we added this Free Agency only shows how delusional people can be. We had a terrible FA and got only one decent player from the Giants. That’s it. Our secondary and defense have not improved and will be as bad as it was last year. You can take that to the bank.
