Vikings claim Terrell Manning off waivers

It won’t make the kind of splash that signing Brett Favre did, but the Vikings have added another former member of the Packers to their roster after he spent a season playing in the AFC.

The Vikings have been awarded linebacker Terrell Manning off of waivers one day after he was let go by the Chargers. Manning was a fifth-round pick of the Packers in 2012 and played five games for the team before being waived last summer.

Manning was limited to just one game for the Chargers last season because of injuries, so he’s got very little NFL experience under his belt after two years in the league.┬áManning has spent most of his time as an inside linebacker and he’ll be competing for snaps with Michael Mauti, Jasper Brinkley and Audie Cole if the Vikings put him into the mix at middle linebacker.

The Vikings also signed tight end Allen Reisner on Tuesday as they continue shaping their roster ahead of the 2014 season.

What a tremendous signing by the historic Minnesota Vikings.

The rest of the league is in awe after the dominating free agency we had.

Not only did we sign in their prime players for a solid price.

We stacked great building block players so we won’t have to fill every position during the draft.

We will draft our franchise QB and a stud LB in the second round.

And the dynasty will officially begin.

Besides Rogers (who’s falling apart) there is no one on that team that can start for the Vikes!

So he’s really actually an ex-Charger. But I suppose you could make an argument if he was originally a Packer. Fine. But he’ll probably do some good in Mike Zimmer’s system. Not like you can really flourish as a great player in a system run by Dum Capers.

Nice signing. Maybe the Vikings D can move up into the Top 30 this season.

You gotta love the Viking fans spirit. They are allowed to dream.

why don’t the vikings just change their name to the minnesota packers part deux? we all know they wish they were the packers. SKOL.

the vikes D will be a top 15 unit, while the packers D will have a legit shot at moving into the top 30 this season.

Vikings were ranked 26th in defense last year. Thanks.

He doesn’t look like the other two Manning brothers.

5th round pick for the Pack, waived mid-season, will probably start for the Purple. Sounds about right.

Another great Ted Thompson draft choice. Played five games and was cut? Mere training camp fodder for the Vikes, but someone the Packers thought was worth a fifth-round pick.

Because his name is Manning — he’s automatically the best QB in Vikings camp.

Rick Speilman is soon going to start talking about Winning, and Tigers blood….

I was wondering why it took so long for them to sign an ex-Packer. Get with the program, Spielman!

    Special teams at best..

  16. stercuilus65 says: Apr 15, 2014 6:39 PM

He is related to Peyton and Eli so not a bad signing!

  17. dragonfly99 says: Apr 15, 2014 6:48 PM

Not surprised. We all know Spielman has a hard on for ex Green Bay players, any Green Bay player.

After watching the Vikings over the years I have come to believe that the difference between a losing record and a winning record is often the ability of the coaching staff to acquire or retain players with potential and then motivate the players to play to their potential consistently. That has not been either case in Minnesota recently. In free agency the team has upgraded the defensive backfield and gotten younger on the defensive line. The missing ingredient is talent and leadership at the QB position assuming the coaching staff can deliver.

  19. vikingcheesegrater says: Apr 15, 2014 7:08 PM

Yep, the Vikings always like to pick up any Hall of Famers that Ted Thompson chases out of Green Bay. Unfortunately, since Favre, there haven’t been any Hall of Famers on the Packers’ roster.

  20. beerbratscheese says: Apr 15, 2014 7:18 PM

So let me see if I understand how this works. The Packers are a Super Bowl winning team. The Vikings consistently sign their cast-offs and they suck. Then the Seahawks pick up a fair number of Vikings cast-offs and are a Super Bowl winning team.

It’s gotta suck being a Vikings fan.

    Rick Spielman is a Mortician.

  22. zenrooster says: Apr 15, 2014 7:25 PM

Vikings fans, bad and delusional. That my friend is the definition of Rock Bottom

  23. filthymcnasty1 says: Apr 15, 2014 7:31 PM

Since Farve, the Packers have already won a Superbowl – apparently without any help from future hall of famers.

Why can’t the Vikings ever win a Superbowl?

  24. qdog112 says: Apr 15, 2014 8:22 PM

This kid can play. He’s been ill with some type of virus and lost weight, but he can flat out play, when he’s healthy.

I’d be surprised if he doesn’t earn a leading role on some defense. He’s better suited for OLB.

  25. sterlingrodgers says: Apr 15, 2014 8:58 PM

John Kuhn will be the Vikings short yardage specialist in 2018.

  26. whatjusthapped says: Apr 15, 2014 9:19 PM

He’s undersized, a step slow and got lost in traffic of pulling lineman so Green Bay cut him.

But he will probably start for the Vikings, which is far more a statement about their defense than it is Manning’s ability, or in his case, lack thereof.

Let’s see, a LB cut by two 3-4 teams is going to ace it on a 4-3 team?
