Jadeveon Clowney’s visiting the Lions, for some reason

Jadeveon Clowney won’t be doing a lot of extra workouts for teams, because frankly, he doesn’t need to.

But that’s not stopping him from seeing more of America than he needs to.

According to Tim Twentyman of the Lions official website, Clowney was visiting Detroit today.

That’s interesting on a few fronts: A) Because Michigan ain’t exactly Aruba this time of year and B) the Lions pick 10th in the upcoming draft.

People can malign Clowney’s work ethic all they want, the guy’s not slipping to the 10th spot, so his decision to visit with the team picking 10th is curious.

Unless they’re not planning on picking 10th.

With big numbers at the top of their salary cap, and perhaps sensing some pressure to win now, the Lions may be considering a move. It would be a strong statement to pair a premier edge rusher with Ndamukong Suh, and allow the Lions to attack in multiple ways.

Or maybe Clowney’s just a big Tigers fan.

Maybe he just wants to take a visit to the wonderful city of Detr… Never mind

Detroit is moving to #2 before the draft that way they get either Watkins or Clowney

  3. lanman11 says: Apr 16, 2014 2:37 PM

    The Clown Show continues….

Its a free trip, and real estate out there is cheap.

Unless you’re a psychic, you have no idea whether or not Clowney will drop to 10. It’s not like there aren’t significant red flags on this guy. Highly questionable work ethic. Watch his tape against Lewan and tell me this guy is that special. 3 sacks last year.

    3. Sacks.

Perhaps because he is one of the 2 players that I think they would be much more likely to trade up for than Sammy Watkins. Everybody fell for the smokescreen, pay attention people!

Maybe they’re preparing for life without Suh.

Detroit has a lot of holes to look at before they target the laziest first round pick since Jamarcus Russell.

  9. radiofriendly420 says: Apr 16, 2014 3:01 PM

    Clowney, Suh, Fairley, Ansah

Not bad! I don’t see it happening though.

#1 for #10 and Suh. A cap killer who is both a turd and huge new contact in exchange for the one defensive player coming out of college in the past ten years better than him.

  11. nyctraffic says: Apr 16, 2014 3:05 PM

Maybe he likes the uniforms? Obviously, there must be serious trade-up talk in Detroit. He declined to work out for Atlanta, who has been the team “most likely” to trade up in the dtraft.

Comparing off season workout note’s with Suh, obviously.

  13. 3yardsndust says: Apr 16, 2014 3:10 PM

I hope this means Suh gets traded somehow.

  14. beavertonsteve says: Apr 16, 2014 3:19 PM

I doubt they would make a move to #2 BEFORE Houston’s pick, but that would be funny if someone leapfrogged them into #1 and took Watkins.

  15. radiofriendly420 says: Apr 16, 2014 3:24 PM

No matter how many times you explain to Lions fans that you can’t trade Suh due to the immense dead cap space it would result in, they still call for it.

Trade away the best defensive player you’ve had in decades. Good call!!!

  16. cas5875 says: Apr 16, 2014 3:25 PM

You people talking about trading Suh are idiots. He is arguable the best DT in the NFL and the only other guy in that discussion, Geno Atkins, is returning from a serious injury.

Suh is in Detroit for the next 3 years even if they dont extend him. Get used to it.

  17. udkidd says: Apr 16, 2014 3:25 PM

Trade #10 and Nick Fairley for the #2 pick. That could be possible.

  18. cas5875 says: Apr 16, 2014 3:26 PM

And they only way they make a move before the draft is if Nick Fairley in included in the deal, that way the new team can then pick up the 5th year option. Just my opinion…

  19. 4greatestvikingever says: Apr 16, 2014 3:27 PM

They are probably trading #10, Stafford, and Calvin Johnson to Houston, so they can take Clowney and have the most incredible D-Line ever, on the worst team ever.

  20. jmsieli says: Apr 16, 2014 3:43 PM

This will be Best Draft Party EVER!!!!!!!!! no one seems to know “What the hell is going on out there” love you Vince, can’t wait for the circus to come to town.

  21. blackbug99 says: Apr 16, 2014 3:43 PM

You can buy a lot of $1000 homes for the money he can expect to get!!

  22. arend2nj says: Apr 16, 2014 3:47 PM

How does anyone think that Fairley and the 10th pick is worth the 2nd overall pick? Fairley, in 3 years has been inconsistent at best. He’s not that good.

  23. cptbuff says: Apr 16, 2014 3:56 PM

The Bills will have the best two defensive ends in the league this year in Kyle Williams and Marcel Dareus. 19-0.

  24. cptbuff says: Apr 16, 2014 3:57 PM

Excuse me, best two defensive tackles. Although with Mario Williams and Jerry Hughes we’ll have roughly the #1 and #4 best DEs in the game as well. 19-0.

  25. uwsptke says: Apr 16, 2014 4:11 PM

There is no way that Fairley, in the last year of his deal (unless the option is picked up), is going to move you up 8 spots at the top of the first round. He hasn’t done much of anything as a pro. St. Louis isn’t going to pass on Watkins, Clowney, Robinson, etc for a lesser prospect plus a year of Fairley.
