Jets land Chris Johnson with two-year deal

The deal looked likely when he made his first trip, and spent the night.

And now Chris Johnson is a Jet.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Jets have agreed to terms with the former Titans running back on a two-year deal.

He adds an explosive element to the offense for a team that sorely needs them (though they still need them in the passing game).

The short deal gives the 28-year-old back a chance to re-establish himself, with perhaps a chance at another deal.

Chris Johnson is a decent running back.

Adrian Peterson is the greatest running back of all time.

    See the difference?

  16. blowfishes says: Apr 16, 2014 3:28 PM

So Chris Johnson will be looking for his next contract aged 30, the age where most teams consider running backs well beyond their prime.

Not exactly the brightest button in the box is he!

Does raider fan actually still have faith in McFadden? That’s more sad than their lack of ability to break .500, 14 years and counting, stay classy. Maybe you should trade away some more picks for Palmer?

  37. tennesseetitan78 says: Apr 16, 2014 3:43 PM

I wish him the best.. But I’m sure the Jets fans will get tired if seeing his 0 to neg yard gains. But hey he’s good for at least one big play a game. That game against the Jets he was avg less than 1 yard a carry until he busted out that 94 yard run, in which put his avg up. But that’s exactly what he is. A hit or miss guy. Likes to dance around too much waiting on a big hole to open instead of just hitting the hole. But the Jets vs Titans game in Nashville will be fun to watch this yr..

  38. barsfordays says: Apr 16, 2014 3:43 PM

A Vick and Johnson duo has the potential to be deadly

  39. chargerdillon says: Apr 16, 2014 3:43 PM

Are Jets fans really excited about picking up other teams rejects?

Would the Eagles have let Vick walk if he wasn’t injury prone and not all that effective?

Would the Titans have let CJ walk if he was worth anywhere near the money they were paying him?

Better yet why exactly did the Jets draft Geno Smith and play him all last year just to bench him this year.

This is either desperation from the GM or a GM who’s not afraid of losing his job no matter how poorly the players he brought in do.

  40. isphet71 says: Apr 16, 2014 3:45 PM

There go the Jets, thinking re-living 2010 in 2014 is going to be the answer. It’s not too late to get Sanchez back.

  41. weepingjebus says: Apr 16, 2014 3:45 PM

He’ll get a lot of action thanks to the QB situation. Only problem is that Sanchez picked up more yards during the Buttfumble than Johnson averages even with a hole in front of him.

I forsee another 6-10 season for the Jets. And Buddy Ryan taking the blame and getting fired.

  56. billsfan1 says: Apr 16, 2014 4:07 PM

good signing for the price but what i have to wonder is how does this set them up for the future, or is this a facade, you know, lets get the wild card and I get to keep my job kind of move…

  58. queeflatifah says: Apr 16, 2014 4:09 PM

  59. maestro1899 says: Apr 16, 2014 4:10 PM

A 28-year-old signing a two-year deal is not short, relatively speaking, nor will it lead to another deal, at least for anything over the minimum.

  60. ez4u2sa says: Apr 16, 2014 4:10 PM

Well, now maybe the Jets have a chance of catching Miami and staying ahead of Buffalo. It is going to take a lot more than CJ to get the Jets in contention for the division. The are still lacking a quarterback that can last the whole season and a bonafide head coach. Sorry Patriot haters, the Pats are still the class of the division. Nothing that has happened this off season looks to change that.

  61. greymares says: Apr 16, 2014 4:10 PM

We now have a new designation, “NONFACTORBACK”

  62. ryann252013 says: Apr 16, 2014 4:11 PM

This will leave Stephen Hill WIDE OPEN with teams stacking the box and with Decker, Kerley drawing most of the coverages. I would not give up hope on him yet JET fans and I would not be surprised if Hill had a career year.

As a Titans fan, I’d like to offer my condolences to Jets fans …

  66. beavertonsteve says: Apr 16, 2014 4:17 PM

It needed to be a one year deal. Then even if Johnson ran for 1300 yards and left the Jets would happilly take the compensatory pick.

  67. shogunassasin30 says: Apr 16, 2014 4:22 PM

Chris Johnson and Chris Ivory. Vick, Decker. Not sure how good they will be as a team but they will atleast be interesting to watch that’s for sure. If Vick stays healthy. If Cris Johnson returns to form, if Decker plays like he did in Denver. That’s a lot of IF’s so…nevermind. 7-9

  68. BigAlHeBDMan says: Apr 16, 2014 4:25 PM

Two running backs named Chris has to be called the Chris Attack. Now all they need is Chris Kringle. Ha Ha!

  69. taintedsaints2009 says: Apr 16, 2014 4:27 PM

So tired of this jets crap. They aren’t even the best football team in that state. Why is the media so enamored with them?

  70. graphicwolf1art says: Apr 16, 2014 4:27 PM

change CJ2K to “CJ2K4A littlebit” sounds better

  71. magicmtndan says: Apr 16, 2014 4:27 PM

CJ is the softest RB in the entire NFL. He goes down easier than a cheap street walker. Avoids hits like the plague.

Waste of money but that’s what the Titans did for years.

  72. tigerlilac says: Apr 16, 2014 4:30 PM

I wasn’t sure what to make of Johnson being available until his former coach, Jeff Fisher, took a pass on even the thought of bringing him to the Rams. Fisher could be wrong but he strikes me as an good judge of talent and value.

  73. gohometrolls says: Apr 16, 2014 4:30 PM

I hate being right but yeah two years and 3 mil with incentives, and yes an offensive weapon in the draft and your patriots should be trembling because the jets defense is only getting better and their offense was horrible last year and they still went 8-8 I wouldn’t hate or underestimate .

  74. demjoneses says: Apr 16, 2014 4:31 PM

There are only 3 or 4 backs in the league who you can say is better than this man yet the haters act like those 3 or 4 guys are on their team. 1000 yard seasons aren’t what they used to be but who else has had 6 straight 1000 yard seasons OTHER THAN one of the 3 or 4 better than him.

I like how often PFT updates and such, I hate how the haters flock to the board because they can hide behind some silly moniker and make stupid arse comments like this dude isn’t a stud in the NFL.

In Cutler I trust….. Bear Down

  75. bsizemore68 says: Apr 16, 2014 4:32 PM

All of this is great news for the Yets, the problem is they are still in Jersey, they still have the stink from across the Hudson River, and they are still the 2nd best team with the NY in front of there names, at least the Bill don’t claim to be in NY. Bill

    Chicago Bears – Matt Forte

  80. tigerlilac says: Apr 16, 2014 4:46 PM

Injuries can change the outcome of any team’s season but Revis should have a greater impact on his team’s ability to win the AFC East than Vick, Johnson, and Decker combined.

Can somebody please check to see if Miami is fielding an NFL caliber team this year? Or do we need to schedule Alabama to put up 50 pts on the Fish…

PS – Buffalo has also had a good off-season and there is no chance that the Fish finish anywhere but last place in AFC East….you can make book on that missy!!!

  84. dlk47823 says: Apr 16, 2014 5:32 PM

Giants didn’t exactly own NY last year…..or last 5 years…Since the arrival of Rex ( 5 years) Jets have had a better record than the giants 3 out last 5 years. FACTS HURT!

  85. micahernst says: Apr 16, 2014 8:50 PM

How much is the deal for? Chris Johnson hasn’t really produced much the last few seasons, I hope Jets fans like running it outside the tackles.

  86. jacque1981 says: Apr 21, 2014 1:38 PM

People are quick to blame CJ for his failures, but fail to mention that the Titans do not have the best offensive line and their quarterback situation has been bad the last few years. He still rushed for over 1000 yards every year.

I think a change of scenery may do him good. He might have some extra motivation to prove the titans wrong.
