Arizona judge denies bail for Darren Sharper

Sharper AP

Former NFL player Darren Sharper currently has so many legal problems that even former NFL player Aaron Hernandez would say, “That guy’s got a lot of legal problems.”

Sharper’s problems became more complicated on Thursday.

Via Brent Schrotenboer of USA Today, a judge in Arizona determined on Thursday that Sharper should not be released on bail for the rape charges he’s facing in that state.  Sharper also has been accused of rape in California and Louisiana, with potential charges also in Nevada and Florida.

In Arizona, Sharper’s conduct resulted in three alleged victims, labeled as A, B, and C.

“The court finds proof evident and the presumption great that Victim B was the victim of a sexual assault committed by Mr. Sharper,” Granville said. “The court will therefore affirm the no-bond finding with respect to [sexual assault].”

The evidence consists of DNA material matching Sharper.

He currently remains in jail in California while the wheels of justice churn in three different jurisdictions.  He is expected to be tried initially in California.

Sharper played for the Packers, Vikings, and Saints.  He was a key member of the 2009 New Orleans team that won Super Bowl XLIV.  Most recently, Sharper worked as an analyst for NFL Media.  Initially suspended after the California case came to light, the league fired Sharper after an arrest warrant was issued in Louisiana.

With multiple charges in multiple states, the Judge probably made the right decision. The guy is clearly a threat to public safety. Keep him off the street.

  3. 1logicalvoicesays says: Apr 18, 2014 9:14 AM

I bet he gets released from prison and signs a huge deal with the Redskins. HTTR

  4. filthymcnasty1 says: Apr 18, 2014 9:14 AM

I thought he was already released after a day in jail. Or was that one of those other troubled former Vikings?

  5. primenumber19 says: Apr 18, 2014 9:17 AM

Who would have thought this guy and marvin Harrison would be two of the worst criminals in nfl history?

  6. cubano76 says: Apr 18, 2014 9:26 AM

I wonder who will eventually do more time, Sharper or Aaron Hernandez? Both are def screwed.

    Packer hall of famer

Now the only franchise to draft a serial murderer and serial rapist

“Greatest story in all of sports”

Disgusting. He had a great career (Hall of Fame worthy) made a lot of money, got a Super Bowl ring and had seemingly transitioned to retirement with his own show, basically what any of us would give an arm for. And he flushed it all down the toilet. Terrible.

  9. filthymcnasty1 says: Apr 18, 2014 9:33 AM

Now we just need one more jailed former Viking today for the hat trick.

How did it take so long to arrest him with multiple victims across 4 states? How long has he been doing this? and how did no one know until recently? Very sick person, but makes no sense in that he had money, fame, looks, and most likely many women interested in him.

  13. weepingjebus says: Apr 18, 2014 10:12 AM

According to the underlying article, there are issues with DNA matches in part because apparently he had a vasectomy. So for the judge to still deny bail suggests the other evidence and testimony is overwhelming.

  14. nealc53 says: Apr 18, 2014 10:12 AM

Never!! understand this… thee guys can get all the women without raping them..

  15. rajbais says: Apr 18, 2014 10:14 AM

By the way, he’s a deserving HOFer.

Could he be the first HOFer absent while alive if he’s imprisoned?

  16. ringheadcrusher says: Apr 18, 2014 10:21 AM

WAY too much smoke for there not to be a HUGE fire. Throw away the key judge. Scumbag has no business walking around free. He’s right where he belongs. This is precisely the kind of guy we build prisons for.

  20. ariani1985 says: Apr 18, 2014 10:37 AM

  21. n0hopeleft says: Apr 18, 2014 10:38 AM

Pathetic loser… His arrogance will cost him his freedom.. I have no sympathy.

  22. grimreaper12 says: Apr 18, 2014 10:39 AM

  23. buzzardmeat101 says: Apr 18, 2014 10:45 AM

    Sharper? A misnomer!!!

  24. skolvikingsuperbowl says: Apr 18, 2014 10:46 AM

We love our former Packers, regardless of circumstances. I for one am sure of his innocence.

  25. filthymcnasty1 says: Apr 18, 2014 10:52 AM

He played in MN, and this is how Viking fans normally go about their courtships.

  26. kneelbeforesod says: Apr 18, 2014 11:02 AM

The judge probably prevented another sexual assault by denying Sharper’s bail.

What a tragic and horrific turn of events for someone who (likely) would have been a 1st ballot HOF.

  27. clelek05 says: Apr 18, 2014 11:46 AM

Best news I’ve heard all day. This guy cannot be released. Ever.

  28. stellarperformance says: Apr 18, 2014 12:16 PM

The Packers own the Vikings. As a result of that ownership, they can assign and deflect any negative Sharper associations as they see fit…… directly to the Vikings. That’s the power of owning another team so thoroughly and completely. As a Viking fan, it must be tough to deal with facts like that. That must be why so many Viking fans pull nonsense out of their butts to “get back at us.” Whoops….I just laughed beer out of my nose. Sorry.

If you’re a rich, former football player, decent looking and single with a woman who willingly comes up to your hotel room…there’s a good chance you don’t need to drug them.

  30. trapshoot says: Apr 18, 2014 1:43 PM

  31. skybox22blog says: Apr 18, 2014 2:03 PM

Vasectomy doesn’t matter as far as DNA is concerned.

  32. afcdomination says: Apr 18, 2014 2:07 PM

such a strange case. from the women who said all the women loved this guy and how he could have had any of them based on how they looked at him.

it just makes you wonder how sick one has to be to do that. to be there with someone willing to sleep with you, yet you drug them? at least when its some loser who can’t talk to women you can understand the crazy. Sharper? that is a whole new level of control.

  33. longislandblitz says: Apr 18, 2014 3:33 PM

Judging by the responses posted above, innocent until proven guilty has become a lost cause these days.We don’t know any of the facts it honestly sounds a little sketchey. He could have had consensual sex with the women they found his DNA on and did something to make her mad.My feeling is he will get off because he has the money to buy the best lawyers money can buy

  41. jkirby317 says: Apr 18, 2014 5:33 PM

So apparently the bar of what the law deems inappropriate for athletes to get away with has been set: hella rapes. (allegedly).

  42. xinellum says: Apr 18, 2014 5:33 PM

If I was him I would claim insanity due to the massive amount of head shots and/or concussions he suffered. Get a good lawyer, claim he suffers from CTE, forbid California from extraditing because of mental illness, and start acting crazier than he already is. Face it, he has to be crazy to give up all he had to steal a POA. That is the definition of crazy.

Thirteen? Ok whatever helps you sleep at night. I love how you cheeseheads always like to talk about all those championships you won back in the leather helmet days. How many teams were there in the league back then? Six?

You gloating about all those old championships is comparable to someone from Minnesota taking credit for all those “World Championships” we won back when the Minneapolis Lakers were still here.

  45. pack13queens0 says: Apr 20, 2014 7:55 PM

If Sharper had never been a Viking, he probably would have never gotten into trouble with the law. Go to Minnesota, become a criminal. Stay in Green Bay, you would never get into trouble, people in Green Bay are perfect.

  46. revren10 says: Apr 20, 2014 9:32 PM

He would be great on the Redskins with RG horrible then they could battle over who has the bigger ego

  47. vikingspride says: Apr 21, 2014 8:57 PM

  48. kingokra says: Apr 22, 2014 4:10 PM

I have to admit, watching Packer and Viking fans go at each other is very amusing. Who is the serial murderer drafted by the Packers mentioned above?
