The Rams will reportedly add a fifth year to defensive end Robert Quinn’s contract.

According to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the club will pick up the 2015 option on Quinn, their 2011 first-round pick and one of the NFL’s top pass rushers, by the May 3 deadline.

Quinn, 23, notched 19 sacks in 2013 and garnered Defensive Player of the Year honors from the Professional Football Writers of America.

When the Rams pick up the 2015 option, Quinn will be due a base salary of $6.969 million, according to Albert Breer of NFL Media, who reported the 2015 salary numbers for first-rounders selected with picks Nos. 11-32 on Friday.

Quinn was picked one spot before the Dolphins took center Mike Pouncey 15th overall in 2011. Were the Dolphins to pick up Pouncey’s option, the Pro Bowl center would make $7.438 million in 2015, according to the figures reported by Breer.

  1. Least surprising thing ever.

Quinn is the best pick we’ve made on that side of the ball since at least Kevin Carter, and I might even say since Kevin Greene.

  2. Back in the ’11 draft, Rams were interested in Missouri LB Aldon Smith, but Niners drafted him, leaving the Rams with unknown DE from North Carolina, Robert Quinn. 3 years later, best move by Rams in years…Quinn has become the best pure 4-3 DE in football, while Aldon has had off-the field problems besides a productive pass-rusher.A no Brainerd by Rams to pick up Quinn’s option.

  3. No brainer of the off-season. Beast. Has the hawks running scared. Hate seeing him on the other side of the ball.

  4. Rams Nation should be thrilled. This guy is the real deal. The teams that passed on him in the draft have to be kicking themselves.

  5. This without a doubt is the smartest thing to do to add to the defense that is getting better every year. If the Rams picked up a Safety or another OLB, watch out! The defensive line is stacked in the best division in football. The whole West almost went .500, imagine if the Rams closed out against the Seahawks on Monday night or finished any game in the first 8 games before the run game started. This team has found an identity on defense and hopefully this year on offense if they pick up Sammy!! The NFC West is literally no joke

  6. IMO , Alden Smith is an overrated . He is in nowhere close to the class of Quinn .

The main reason for Smith success is the famous ” grabbing” from Justin Smith , Justin has been doing that for a long time , and that frees out the route for Alden to roam free to the QB .

Playing with a different Dline , Alden won’t even come close to what Robert Quinn doing for Rams D .
