One of the Saints’ primary deep threats is back for another season in New Orleans.

The club said Friday it had signed wideout Robert Meachem to a one-year contract. The 29-year-old Meachem caught 16 passes for 324 yards and two TDs in regular season play for New Orleans in 2013, then added three receptions for 109 yards in the playoffs.

The Saints’ first-round pick in 2007, Meachem (6-2, 215) has caught 171 passes for 2.800 yards and 27 touchdowns in his NFL career. He has played six seasons with New Orleans, including a five-season stint (2007-2011) at the outset of his career. He signed with the Chargers before the 2012 season but struggled in his time with San Diego, catching just 14 passes for 207 yards and two TDs in his lone campaign away from New Orleans.

Forty-two of Meachem’s regular season receptions have gone for 20 yards or more. What’s more, he had three catches of 40 yards or longer in the 2013 regular season, then hauled in receptions of 40 and 52 yards in the postseason.

Not a bad resigning. He’ll be able to hold that role one more year while Kenny Stills is getting the last of the polishing up he needs.

Will he make the team? I dont think him and Morgan both are gonna make the team

the saints have really shown the chargers how to deal with personnel. first sproles, who helped the saints win big, who when they were done, they got a 5th rd pick for, unlike SD who let him leave for no compensation.

then you have meachem. SD thinks its a great idea to replace V-Jax with a guy who couldn’t get 50 catches with drew brees. Meachem cashes in, fails, and is now back with the Saints for cheap.

kudos to that New Orleans front office.

Robert Meacham is like Matt Flynn, seems to only work in one system on one team.

The chargers are the NFL’s farm league.

“The chargers are the NFL’s farm league.”

They’re the Saints farm team. 🙂

SD picking him up was one of the worst FA signings of all time.

99% of the people who post here would’ve advised against trying to turn him into a #1 WR but the Chargers did it anyway and wasted a ton of money. Now NO get him back on the cheap to basically be a decoy – what he’s best at

Damn that’s rough. 171 for 2.8. That’s quite the average.

Dude blocks great and catches well. He’s used on nearly all running plays and will be on the final 53.

What a bust for the Chargers…we can thank the Lord with no Rings (Aj Smith). Not only did he let talent walk away to the Saints but numerous teams! ….good job by the Saints by signing this guy for cheap instead of giving him a big nondeserving contract like the Chargers did.

Always a good time the occasional moments Meach catches a deep one. He’s a big receiver with deceptive speed.

Meachem is a no better blocker than any big dude from an SEC team. Now Devery Henderson was a tremendous blocker

Meachem is only a Multi-millionaire because he has played for the Saints. Playing with any other team he would be garbage

Meachem is a better blocker than Graham.

He gets a lifetime pass for the play @ Washington in 2009, The Meacharound.

The person responsible for bringing this bust to San Diego has been replaced. Moving forward.
