Chiefs bring back Kyle Williams

The Chiefs got back to work on Monday and they spent part of the day securing the return of wide receiver Kyle Williams.

Williams was claimed off of waivers from the 49ers in November and played in one game for the Chiefs before tearing the ACL in his left knee. Williams didn’t have any catches for Kansas City and had 12 for 113 yards before being cut loose by the Niners.

It’s the second time in as many years that Williams has torn the same ACL, which has to create some concern about how much he will be able to contribute to the Chiefs in 2014. Kansas City needs help at wideout, but Williams was unlikely to be the answer to their needs even before the second knee injury.

Williams also has experience as a returner from his days in San Francisco, but even that comes with a caveat. He’s best known for fumbling a pair of punt returns in a NFC Championship Game loss to the Giants in January 2012.
