Report: LaMichael James won’t attend 49ers workouts

LaMichael James AP

Reports out of the Bay Area last week had the 49ers shopping running back LaMichael James in a trade and James seemed to welcome the opportunity to try on a different uniform when referencing them in a later tweet.

It looks like there will be more fuel for that fire this week. Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com reports that James will not attend the team’s voluntary offseason workouts, which begin on Monday, and will instead work out on his own in Texas.

James will forfeit a $50,000 workout bonus if he does that, but may see it as a small price to pay if it leads to him playing somewhere else in 2014. Per Maiocco, James would welcome a fresh start after playing in just 14 games for the 49ers in two seasons after they made him a second-round pick in the 2012 draft.

The 49ers have Kendall Hunter, Marcus Lattimore and Jewel Hampton at running back along with Frank Gore and James, so his absence from workouts isn’t going to help him earn more playing time in the backfield. Whether they’ll be able to trade him is unclear, but it looks increasingly unlikely that James will have any role with the Niners in the coming season.

Why would you forfeit $50k that is due you? All you have to do is show up, work out. Who cares if the 9’ers want you or not. If someone gave me $500 to show up and work out I’d do it – Because it is something I’d be doing anyway.

This is one of the reasons these guys are broke within a couple years of retiring. Hey James, if you want to come off like a good dude, how about showing up, getting that check and donating that cash to kids or something, seeing as how you don’t need 50k.

Finally some good off-season news for my 49ers.

You forfeit the money so you get traded.

    Kind of common sense.

What’s $50,000 when you want a fresh start? It’s absolutely meaningless…and better to get a chance to earn more.

Because, Ragnar, if he were to get hurt while working out with the 9ers, he’d lose a lot more than $50,000. So, it suggest to me that he is smarter than you think.

And please don’t be one of those guys that tells us what you’d do for $500. We don’t want to know, and he’s much better than you at what he does.

maybe this is why he didn’t play much. his true colors are showing on his attitude…and he wasn’t that good at pass blocking. LETS GO MARCUS LATTIMORE!!

When did we become the Raiders? Good bye LMJ let’s get a 6 or 7 out of that 2nd round pick. Can we move past the Kyle Williams type players?

  7. alldonesmith says: Apr 21, 2014 2:44 PM

Way to show the rest of the NFL that you’re a team player, LaMichael. Real smart.

  8. williambrasky says: Apr 21, 2014 2:50 PM

Send him to the saints for next years 7th, just like they did with parys.

  9. andrewluck12 says: Apr 21, 2014 2:54 PM

His attitude still sounds better than Colin’s though

  10. clintblairjr says: Apr 21, 2014 2:57 PM

9ers drafted him back when they already had too many rbs and he doesnt fit there power running style not to mention Kap hardly ever uses the rb as a checkdown.

All I can remember is that fumble in the SuperBowl. Bye bye buddy.

  12. locator08 says: Apr 21, 2014 3:05 PM

he can cime to cleveland whenever he is ready

  13. folkwolf101 says: Apr 21, 2014 3:06 PM

A very idiotic move. All NFL teams will now see James as a sullen prima donna, who hasn’t played much and has a ripe history of fumbles and dropped passes, and they will recall all his negative ati-49ers tweeting.

In other words, the GMs will see James as a high-risk locker-room cancer.

“Chip Kelly is on line 1 Mr. James “

  15. vikinganswer says: Apr 21, 2014 3:17 PM

Really? He has a secretary? Now thats funny. Not anything like the phone call i would imagine Kelly making. More noise and swearing in back ground.

Can’t say I blame him. That sinking ship called the 49ers is just looking worse and worse every day.

Who could honestly want to be a part of that clown show? Everyone from the fans to the ownership are a joke. From the fans stabbing each other, to the players shooting people at parties and threatening people with brass knuckles, to the coach who throws more tantrums than a 2-year-old child… the 49ers just can’t stop making themselves the butt of every joke.

  17. bolvi says: Apr 21, 2014 3:38 PM

You mean that franchise that was just a play away from the SB last year and was in the SB TBE YEAR BEFORE THt and in the championship game before that? That sinking franchise? Lmao

  18. bolvi says: Apr 21, 2014 3:40 PM

And btw. The excuse that James is smarter than we think because he’s not at camp because he doesn’t want to get hurt is pretty foolish. So that would mean he can’t get hurt training on his own. So he just gave up 50k for absolutely no reason

  19. stixzidinia says: Apr 21, 2014 4:35 PM

Wow just throwing away 50K so he can work out for nothing on his own. When he’s on Broke in a few years he’ll be wishing he had that 50K. Not to mention this doesn’t exactly endear him to other teams. He doesn’t look like a team player. Just basic common sense stuff like this is lost on so many of today’s athletes. This is just basic stuff about first impressions and reputation that goes right over their heads.

  20. juliusanonymous says: Apr 21, 2014 8:21 PM

Only Niner fans brag about losing big games, trying to seriously argue that they were just “one play away” from winning. Dude, you lost. Get over it. The funniest thing about it is how when the Seahawks lost Superbowl XL, all these same Niner fans would laugh at Seahawk fans for losing the Superbowl and brag about trophies they won in the 1980’s.

Last I checked, the Lombardi is sitting on Pete Carroll’s mantel. With a big ol’ 12th Man flag behind it. Right next to a ring that reads, “2014 World Champions”

BTW, that curve you described – getting to the NFCCG, then to the Superbowl, then to the NFCCG… that is a bell curve. Put that bell curve on a piece of paper and tell me which direction it’s CURRENTLY headed. I know you 49er fans love to live in the past, but if you look at right now, your bell curve is trending downward while the Cardinals are headed up.

    Cardinals > 49ers

    The Santa Clara 4QuarterChokers!

They will continue to choke with that ‘deer caught in the headlights’ QB, Kaepernick.

How many more clutch games does Kaep have to lose before a light goes off in Harbaugh’s head?

Lastly, the Niners took some major hits on defense this off season, they will not be as good as the last few seasons. This seems to suggest that if Kaep shows little progress in his reads this coming season it will not look good going forward as it was your defense that took you to the playoffs the last three years, not Kaep.

Niners swept the Cardinals. Seattle didn’t

  23. evansvc says: Apr 22, 2014 6:05 PM

There are a lot worse QBs on NFL rosters that has never had the success Vince Young has had …(NFL Rookie of the Year, 2 Pro Bowls, Playoff experience and Mobility).
This veteran quarterback has a career winning record of 31-19…
GM/Coach, sit down and talk to this guy…I think he can help…..
