Mike Smith: Julio Jones will be a Falcon “for a long, long time”

The Falcons 2013 season was officially down the tubes when Julio Jones was lost for the season with a foot injury.

But Falcons coach Mike Smith said Tuesday that Jones was working toward being ready for the opener, and apparently many openers to come.

The wide receiver’s contract option figures to be picked up soon, but Smith told reporters he didn’t think that was an issue.

“I do know this. Julio Jones is going to be an Atlanta Falcon for a long, long time,” Smith said.

The Falcons have made it clear they wanted to extend Jones, but wanted to do other business first. After an active early part of free agency, things have slowed, and the focus has shifted to getting ready for the draft.

But it sounds like they’re not concerned about the business they’ll eventually do with Jones. Smith said Jones was working with trainers, and every expectation was that he’d be ready for the opener.

Mike, Julio will be there long after you are gone. You won’t have to worry about him after that.

If the Falcons don’t make it to at least the NFCCG, if not the SB, it’s time to let Mikey walk. I like the guy, and I can appreciate what he has come in and done after the whole Mike Vick/Bobby Petrino drama, but stable and above average isn’t going to cut it much longer.

Talk about stating the obvious. They traded a bevvy of picks for the kid and he’s a superstar talent. Just gotta hope that screw in the foot holds better this time. He can do it all.

Until you trot out a real running back, offensive line, and defense. In my opinion, your window has closed Atlanta. Blame your overrated G.M., not your coach. Your about 9 players away. -Reality

Atlanta will not win a Super Bowl for a long, long time. Choke City.

Translation: We gave up too much for him to quit now.

No team should be so dependent on one player that they fold when that player goes down…..especially when it is not an elite QB! That doesn’t say very much for your second string.

Guess so since they gave away the proverbial farm to get him.
