Jets add Jimmy Garoppolo, two tight ends to visit list

The Jets have set up a quarterback competition between Michael Vick and Geno Smith for this summer, but they’re still doing some due diligence on the position before the draft.

Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com reports that Eastern Illinois quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is visiting with the Jets on Wednesday. Garoppolo has been a busy man the last few weeks as he’s made the rounds of teams wondering if he might be the answer to their need at quarterback now or somewhere in the near future.

Whether or not the Jets are one of those teams has a lot to do with what Smith does in his second season, which may preclude another early pick on a quarterback. Vick’s arrival gives them another option for 2014 if Smith fails to progress and there are plenty of other needs they can address in May.

One of them is a pass-catching tight end to go with Jeff Cumberland and the Jets have met with two players who fit the bill. Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that Texas Tech’s Jace Amaro is also visiting on Wednesday while NJ.com reports that North Carolina’s Eric Ebron was in on Tuesday. Ebron probably won’t be around for the 18th pick, but Amaro could be a second round possibility for the Jets.

I think Amaro will be Aaron Hernandez-ish.
    Hopefully, without the maniacal tenendcies.

I like what the jets are doing keep up the good work . Our aim is reaching the Super Bowl . We need competition @ all positions . But I truly want a wr- cook first pick , and Amaro in the 2-rd. do what ever it takes to get him.

Jets should draft 2 bestWR on first 2 rounds
Then next 10 picks should be 2 OL and 8
    Defensive guys
I don’t know which guys ,that’s upto the
    scouting dept

Ravens will easily scoop up Ebron if he falls.

Amaro probably goes to Green Bay imo.

Naw.. The Jets will draft CB Gilbert, or any best CB in 1st round, then 2nd round will be either WR/TE, then 3rd round TE/QB… That will show you how much the Jets needs in the opening roster spots.

One of the tests they put Jimmy through was to lock him in a green room for 14 hours. To see how he would hold up.

I just don’t want them to draft Ebron unless he somehow falls out of the first round. Just 8 career touchdowns in college, lots of games where he just disappeared, and he had a drop % of 11%. That’s way too high.

He seems to be a lot better between the 20s then in the redzone. If you’re not a TD maker as a TE, you shouldn’t go in Round 1 IMO.

I would love Cooks or Beckham at 18.

I hope the Saints Draft Amaro in round of one. They can have their own gronk hernandez. I think he would be a great talent at 27.
