Jets announce they’re going back to camp this summer

While the trend league-wide has been to stay closer to home, the Jets are going camping again this summer.

The Jets announced they were returning to SUNY Cortland for training camp this summer, the fifth time in six years they’ve gone to the central New York school to get away from it all.

“I love the fact that we are going back to Cortland,” Jets coach Rex Ryan said in a release from the team. “Everyone knows how I feel about going away. I think it is a big part of building our team camaraderie. The community, the school and the people of Cortland have been outstanding and we are all excited to be going back this summer.“

Many teams elect the familiarity of their own facilities for training camp, along with not having to pack up and move.

But there’s something to be said for eliminating the distractions that go along with being at home, although the Jets never really seem to avoid them wherever they go.

Rex doesn’t mention the three Taco Bell franchises within walking distance of the SUNY Cortland campus.

I think this is a great thing. Steelers have been holding training camp at St. Vincents in Latrobe for decades starting in the late 60s. Its good for the team, fans, school, and community. Quite surprised most teams dont do this actually

They could practice on the moon, and it wouldn’t make a bit of difference. Rex will never stop chasing Belicheck’s success, and it will always be his biggest disappointment.

    What about the anti-Vick petition?

I love how the Jets are criticized regardless of when they try to the right thing or when they screw something up. How about the Dolphins have won a Super Bowl only 5 years more recently than the Jets? The Chiefs have only won their Super Bowl the year after the Jets. Chargers? Vikings? Lions? These organizations never get the same grief the Jets do and I’m not quite sure why.

What about all of the dog lovers that were going to oycott because they just can’t get over Michael Vick’s past and don’t want him playing/practicing at their alma mater?

    Those people…

The Jets get the grief because their head coach stood up in front of the world promising Super Bowl after Super Bowl. Thank him.

Not sure what the big deal is? Bills hold training camp in Rochester at St. John-Fisher, and I remember Dallas holding camp in California not sure if they still do. But I don’t see how it’ll hurt the team being away. Plus it brings in more money in communities that normally wouldn’t see it.
